It doesnt make my argument flawed as I never said we ONLY remember artists and scientists. What I said was that these two groups have had the largest impact on culture and civilization and that we remember more people from these 2 groups than from others.

That was taken out too though. What about generals and leaders (and others)?

That has been addressed. Read the thread.

Yes, it was, but I took it as most people generally agreed they were just as influential.

ANyway, artists are not superior in any way, they have a function in this world just like an electrician. I wouldn't want to be in a world without art, that would suck. But artists aren't special in any way outside of other geniuses in whatever, nor any more influential.

I do agree that the OP wasnt worded perfectly but it wasnt meant to be a definitive statemrnt but rather a (provocative) invitation to a discussion and hopefully to maybe gaining new perspectives on art, media, non-art etc

Photography's great and all, but I think in the future the old still photo will be much less revered and influential than film. As a hybrid of several different things--image, writing, and people actually doing stuff physically--it seems to me pretty much the most impressive art form yet. I doubt our grandchildren will remember many of our best photographers, just as we remember only a few of the best portraitists from the pre-photography era.
They might remember Trey Parker though.

OMFG, Pete, curveball...Here I am reading along, thinking all like, yeah, Bunuel, Gilliam, Fellini - these names might resonate through generations to come...heck, they already have. And then it's Trey Parker.

Heads, he's being ironic. Tales, I gotta watch Team America again...flip...

ah bag it, I always have time to watch Team America again - maybe download some more Southpark...

this question is so stupid that it makes me think that it may be more accurate to say that artists are inferior.

Actually, the poll questions show a very real problem with society. A person who has tons of useless knowledge about art is seen as sophisticated or cultured, while someone with tons of useless knowledge about physics is seen as a geek. The art realm is still very full of what I like to call the snob factor, though that is changing, as the art world (philosophy, music, etc included) is losing it's prominence and getting to the level it should be, the same as any other thing in our society. I don't think science is more important than art, but neither is the opposite true. Society still sees the opposite as true unfortunately.
