True, my friend, you belong with them. Bob Shakespeare, Bob da Vinci, Bobelangelo.

Aigo, I was being self-ironic ... but you forgot mention Bob Dylan there in your avatar, and so did I.
Call me up sometime, jaj, it's been too long. |
Yeah I know. I'll send you a PM sometime.

| Here's the WORST cover ever: The Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin, who ripped off Howlin' Wolf's song Killing Floor. Zeppelin didn't credit the Wolf on the album cover until they were taken to court. I mean, many of the lyrics were lifted DIRECTLY from Killing Floor, in addition to the tune. How could Zeppelin rename it "The Lemon Song" and act like it was their own creation? |

| "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" by Graham Bonnet, covering Bob Dylan. He also did a cover of the Bee Gees song, 'Warm Ride', a leftover from the 'Night Fever' sessions. |

| "Without You" {"Can't live (if living is without you)}" a cover by Harry Nilsson, of the pathetic 'Badfinger' original. The Mariah Carey cover of the cover was okay, but certainly not superior, imho. |

| I can't believe noone has mentioned this one yet.....Funky town. The eighties cover by Pseudo Echo is clearly superior to the lame disco original |

Don't forget 'Whole Lotta Love' (Willie Dixon's You Need Love) and the beginning and end of 'Bring it on Home' (Willie Dixon's 'Bring it on Home'). |

I only read about half this thread so these may be already posted, but...
Ben Kweller -- "Ice, Ice, Baby" (Vanilla Ice)
Patsy Cline (Kline?) -- "Crazy" (Willie Nelson)
Nirvana -- "Turnaround" (Devo)
the Pogues -- "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" (Eric Bogle?)
Orb -- "The Lights 3000" (Morrisey? the Smiths?) |

| Oh yeah--"Satisfaction" by Devo is better than the Stones one too, IMHO. |

No friggin' way, but The Beach Boys version comes close.
The Stones tune, 2000 Man, done by Kiss is pretty sweet. |

Six bloody pages and no one mentions the greatest cover-better-than-original I know of:
Canadian Paul Anka wrote and performed the English version of "My Way" and it sucked royally, really hurts one's ears if you hear his version, but when masterly covered by Frank Sinatra it became a classic. |
