[Whistleblower]

Hiya all,

I decided to go to Itaewon with my best friend over the weekend. It was a big mistake. This was the first time I had been to Itaewon and compared it to the a*s* of Seoul.

My friend and I went into a bar and the ladies were super nice. "Sit down here", "What would you like to drink", "Can we sit with you?", "Do you want to buy us a drink".

20 minutes later and 4 drinks with the ladies they pulled out a card I never expected. "Btw" they said, "the drinks are 20000 KRW each". We are hostess girls.

I looked around and left. Obviously, I was forced to pay. My friend and I could not believe what was happening. I was shocked.

Any1 else been through this experience before in Korea?

A simple going over of the posts Whistleblower has made appears to indicate he/she is not at all a real teacher (I tend to dislike the grammar policing on here- but the whole structure of his/her posts is not remotely like what any native speaker would type even in a hurry), and quite possibly a NARC (at worst) or a troll (at best).

This is a true experience with a dump of a bar in Itaewon. I have only experienced Itaewon once in the evening and I have to say it ain't the centre of the universe.

I went off to Jongno and ended up having a decent night with my drinking buddy.

Btw, sorry if my English on the forums isn't up to scratch but I have to make do with my time and this place doesn't consume me as much as other people.

It happened me once in London. I went into a strip bar and it was only 5 pounds but when I ordered a drink the girl said that I owed an 80 pounds hostess fee so I paid.

I was only 17.

At least I spent my confirmation money in a suitable way.

You say, "It's expired. I'll be back in five minutes, and I'll be bringing four of my friends who are waiting at Burger King. They will need companions, and they like to drink. Can you call a few more ladies over from another bar?"

The'll be so busy salivating that you can leave Itaewon instead of going to the ATM. It's not unfair. They should have paid you for the free English practice.

If you try this, never return to Itaewon.

Are you automatically attracted to hookers? I'm not saying Itaewon is the bestest place in the world but how can you judge a place on your first visit there when you were the genius who chose a bar where you have to pay the girls to talk to you?

Agreed. The scantily clad women beckoning you from the entrance of the bar should've been the give-away.

It looks as though you joined the forum in Feb. 2007, so I'll guess you are a FOB newbie. If not then you are too naive for the big city. Either way, you got juiced. Consider yourself lucky that you got out in time. That bill could've jumped up very high.

Not all of the bars have scantily clad women beckoning people in. Take for example the one next to Hollywoods. You have to go up the stairs and through the door before you relise that something is a bit iffy. By the time I got up there I decided to do the responsible thing and just order a beer and tell everybody that I had a girlfriend.

Imagine it wasn't a girlie bar though, and I just happened by chance to walk into a bar with the horniest girls on the planet. Then I probably made an immoral decision because God is probably looking down and saying what a *beep* I was.

Not everything is black and white. Green, for example.

Live and let learn is the lesson from this expensive weekend jaunt. I shall not be heading towards Itaewon if I would like a drink with a buddy, instead I shall stay closer to home.
