Is it not the President's job to negotiate with foreign nations, or, heck, his own people? I don't see how the NSA could be reasonably expected to apply to the person whose job it is to negotiate directly wit other states...

It is Roh's job to negotiate with other nations.
It is NOT Roh's job to negotiate with other nations illegally. The ROK has laws in place that supercede the president. It IS THE PRESIDENT"S JOB TO LEAD THE NATION THROUGH LEGAL MEANS.
North Koreans aren't Roh's people. They are an enemy state whose intent is to communize the ROK. Never forget that you little commie.
Same goes for Bush, and any leader of any nation. |

What you fail to grasp in a spectacular fashion is the difference between a Law and the body designated to enforce that Law. The laws are in place. The people who are supposed to enforce it faild to do so. But their failure doesnt make the law magically disappear. I know the Ministry of UniFICTION would love to get rid of all the laws that are in place to protect the ROK from the DPRK but thats neither here nor there. Just because the current administration of snakes and agents would happily sell the country out to the Norks doesnt give them the right to ignore the laws.
There are many examples. Best one I can think of is allowing members of an ILLEGAL organization - Hanchongryon, demed illegal by the Supreme Court - to visit North Korea! Laws were broken by the UniFICTION ministry. |

With all due respect...I think it may still be an open question whether or not the contact was a violation of the law. I think there is enough wiggle room here for somebody interested to take this issue to a court of law. I think there are two open issues here: 1) was the Presidential order itself legal, and 2) was the subsequent initiated by Ahn legal. The Unification Ministry may SAY it was legal, to cover their butt...but I really think the opposition party has an opportunity here to go to court and get a ruling on the action. |

| And if the courts rule it was illegal, then he should be dealt with, but the finding of illegality should be the job of the prosecutor's office, not a right-wing nutjob commie hunting ESLer on Dave's. He only posted one link and in that link it makes clear that there was no violation of the law, should that change, he should be dealt with. |
