First let me say, that you're all looking fabulous today (this is my gratuitous flattery which will ensure I elicit several responses to this post)...
Secondly, my replacement is coming from america in a few weeks and my boss is currently giving all his stuff (university degree, resume, and what not) to immigration in korea. I'm told that this process takes about a week and then the visa approval or whatever will be fedexed back to america for the new teacher to take to the korean embassy in america to get stamped. And then, i'm told, he can come over.
But the embassy is in New York and he lives not in New York. Is there something he can do, short of driving to New York, to get this visa stamp...can he get it done in Seoul when he arrives? I will ask my boss about this today but i would really be grateful if one of you fine people could give me the gist on it. It's usually all much more elucidating when someone on here explains it to me.

To get my E2 visa in Australia, I sent my passport and the paperwork to the Korean Embassy in Canberra via registered post with a return, pre-paid registered post envelope. No problems. Ask the new teacher to call the embassy in New York to see if they'll do it via mail rather than in person. |

The following link provides access to location information of Korean foreign missions. The new employee can go to any one of them to apply for the visa. If he can get a layover in Singapore, the Korean consulate has overnight service. Singapore is easy to get around and a great place to visit. Hong Kong's not bad either.

D.C. branch does it by mail. I had a similar problem, except I had the added stipulation of a ticking clock.
Anyways, boring histories aside, yes, it should be possible to just mail in the required materials, and the new recruit should look on any Embassy-related website to find out everything that is required.
What Mitty says next is also very sound advice to follow.

If he does send his stuff do NOT let him send it via the regular mail. Spend the extra bucks for FedEx. The speed, tracking ability and peace of mind are well worth the cost. |
