|

I did this poll (see below) a while ago and the greasy spoon diner seemed to be the people's choice.
I'm saving some cash and hope to open a business in Itaewon. Any suggestions? What kind of restaurant is not found in Itaewon? Or more importantly what kind of restaurant do you think would be successful in Itaewon? You think a diner would work? You think it would attract Koreans? I'm just brainstorming here. Let me know what you think. Nothing is too crazy. Fire away.
In terms of a bar or restaurant which would you most welcome as an addition to the Itaewon scene?
An English style Bar 13% [ 6 ]
A 24 hour Denny's style Diner 60% [ 26 ]
A small/mid size dance club 4% [ 2 ]
A good Mexican restaurant 11% [ 5 ]
A sushi restaurant 2% [ 1 ]
A lounge bar that does martinis, margaritas, and coktails right 6% [ 3 ]

Remember, it's not just about looking for what isn't yet in Itaewon, or is under-represented. The key is to do something "better" and "original" in some way. |

How about a sports bar like Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters? |

A billiard hall that serves alcohol. And lapdances. And buffalo wings. |

I'm not sure how feasible this would be wrt Korean import laws/distribution but every single foreigner bar in Korea has pretty much the same list of beers, if a bar found a way to import American microbrews or other beers that you don't find in Korea that would be very nice.
Maybe have the regular lineup of beers and then have a case of something that you don't see in Korea orderered every few days and then served until it runs out, so there'd be an ever-changing lineup of microbrews and whatnot. If there was a new kind of microbrew waiting every few days, I'd definately be a regular at that kind of bar *drools* |

Yah...Denny's would be nice if the food was as cheap as it is back home, and the same kind of...um...quality. (It does taste good if you're in the right mood.)
Or, if you could talk to Taco Bell, and they let you open up a franchise here - but again, the prices would have to be the same...1000 won for a taco would be awesome. |

Not just Itaewon, but I think a Hello Kitty themed bar anywhere in Seoul would do well. Or an Atom themed bar. |

I don't think I've ever had a decent sandwich in this country except once in Jeju airport for some reason. So, I definitely think a deli style sandwich and soup place would be ideal. I'm talking fresh ingredients, decent cheese and a variety of meats. Also, things like cream of veg soup and hearty things like that.
Subway just doesn't cut it, I wouldn't even pi$$ on the place if it were on fire back home but yet I find it's the only edible sandwich in this country (I hate those toast things like Isaacs). Might be a little more expensive than subway if there's good ingredients but would be worth it for me.
Every sunday after soccer, my whole team goes looking for a quick bite to eat in Itaewon before hitting the bar. A sandwich place would be ideal, and I'm sure there's more people like me out there. |

Surely there's enough crappy burgers to be had in Itaewon, why open another? I've never had Denny's but you don't exactly make it sound appealing. |

Mirco Brew sounds wicked. It's the current craze in China. Even in alot of the road side BBQ places have home brew, and of course those lamb sticks flavored with cumin.
Come to think of it, a Chinese style BBQ restaurant would be a great idea.
But that's just me.
Good luck with the project, wayne. |

I second Denny's and Taco Bell. Especially Taco Bell. Of course, it's not REAL Mexican, but it is more than doable and cheap for a quick bite. Also, Denny's has decnet breakfasts if you are out somewhere and get a hankering for breakfast foods, or after clubbing all night. |
