Trust me, just slip 30,000 in an envelope with your name on it-- unless you really care, then make it 50,000.

If you care nothing about the person and are just a guest -- bring nothing, just enjoy.

Wear a suit.

Skip the gift.

It is custom when you get there to get an envelope from the guy sitting at the desk by the door.

Put some money in the envelope (only 10-20K cause you don't know her from a hole in the ground - 10k if you are leaving right after and 20k if you stay for the meal).

Go in, watch the entertainment.

Think in terms of a Las Vegas wedding at the Elvis instant wedding chapel and you will be close.

If you don't know the groom or bride, but have been invited, you don't need a gift. i was in a similar situation and I brough a photo album. if you do know them, bring cash -- of an odd number of man wons.

jeans are not acceptable, at any wedding i ever heard of.

5 man won is the standard gift if you eat.

3 is the minimum. But it's up to you.

At my wedding, we paid 21,000 a head for the buffet, after getting a discount. You do the math.

I usually give 40,000 won (but I'm about the last of the big spenders, I guess...)

Yeah, the wedding halls here are quite cheesy. There is no way I'd tarnish my very special day by saying "I do" in one of those places. Also, be ready to watch idiots at the back talking on their handphones while the bride and groom exchange vows. Classic rudeness! I'd throw these people out of my wedding! Can't people do without that gosh darn phone for a little while? Rolling Eyes

Go in jeans. Being foreigners, you'll be the freaks of the party anyway. Why try to blend in by wearing proper attire?
