|
|
Did any of you guys see the much replayed scene in the sports news of an African American pro. basketball player going beserk in a Korean Pro. basketball match?
The angry African-American pushed the ref. to the floor following a whistle call on offensive play. Following this the player felled another player and then an official, before trying to run at and battle with several other Korean officials!! - while all this was happening you could see the horror stricken faces of the Korean spectators, who had probably never witnessed such loss of control before on a sports field....at least not in Korea.
It took about 5 teammates and the same number of officials to physically restrain the livid player......and he was eventually led 'manu militari' out of the indoor stadium central area..
I spoke with one of my Korean students today, and he told me the player has been 'expelled' from the Korean Basketball pro league, but others have told me this might not be true?
Comments, opinions?
By the way the game happened on April 12th, 2007. Not sure which teams, but the guy played for a team using maroon jerseys.

I saw some clip yesterday (or maybe Wenesday) of some similar sounding scandal.
Except in what I saw, the player pushed the ref, but the ref didn't fall.
And, by reading lips, the player was converying a heavy emotional message to the ref. The player was vehement that the ref engage in many sexual relations. |

Basketball culture note: periods are not necessary after 'pro' and 'ref'. |

I saw that. If Korean people (in general, not all) could like black people any less then they already did, they do now.
His behavior was completely ridiculous.
He deserves to be out of the league. It was terrible. |

I guess Al Sharpton's cries of racism will fall on deaf ears here. |

He was thrown out of the league, good thing. In the NBA I bet he would gotten at least a 50 game suspension for something like that.
Wonder what would of happened if a Korean player had done the same thing |

Here is the latest news. The player was expelled from the Korean Professional Basketball League and fined over 5 million won. His team were in the playoffs, and now their chances are reduced, and they have just one foreign player on the team now.
The name of the player: Pervis Pasco, a Power Forward from Clearwater, Florida, who played for his University at Kansas State. He was not good enough to be drafted into the NBA.
Lesson: don't lose control of your emotions in Korea (or other similar cultures) - it does not pay.

Here is a brief profile of Pervis Pasco, the man expelled (for life) from the Professional Korean Basketball League.
Yes, what he did was wrong, but I feel sorry for Pervis, because this will harm him with regard to future contracts, although, for sure, he will find a place in another country. Options - Philippines Pro Basketball League, Turkish Pro League, French/Spanish/Italian Pro Leagues (Division 2), Swedish/British/Irish Pro Leagues. He will find somewhere, but his sale rate will be affected by teams hesitant to hire a potentially volatile player.

The KBL also suspended Jang Young-jae, who provoked Pasco, for one game and fined him 500 thousand won. |
Interesting.... for international show? |
