I am still fuming over the audacity and stupidity that I was confronted with today.....

I went to the Red Cross Mobile Blood Center today in Kwangmyung thinking it would be a human act on my part to give some blood to those who may need it, regardless of race, nationality, etc...

They say the 3rd time is the charm...(was turned down 2x before) I go inside and say, in my pigpen Korean, that I would like to donate some blood....should have seen the shock on the nurse's face!!

"No, no. No blood!"

"Why not, I want to donate some blood," I said.

"No, no, no blood!"

"And why the f*c$ not?"

"You have AIDS! Go, go, no blood."

I proceeded to get pretty pi$$y by now and demand to speak to the doctor or head nurse...that she understood and probably only complied because I refused to leave and was making a scene.

This doctor/head nurse comes out from back and we go through the scene again..

"Why the f*k can't I donate some blood? I could save a life today, don't you care?"

and to make a long story short...the gist of what she told me was this....

"Most foreigners have AIDS and besides, foreign blood is not compatible with Korean bodies."

I told her she was a **#(#(@(@ idiot and if she claims to be a health care professional she is neither a professional and knows nothing concerning health care nor medicine....then I threatened to call all the news media outlets, write my congressman, and sue The Korean Red Cross...aissssssssssssssssshhhh

So later I was thinking about another post concerning the "No Foreigners" in Miari...some of you have suggested a flash mob gathering....hmmm why not do the same at some of these blood mobiles...why don't we get a sh*t load of waygooks and show up to donate blood and see what happens..and then raise holy he$$ when they refuse us....

just an idea...

Or you could just be satisfied in knowing that the next ass who needs your blood is going to die.

I'd just leave it. Why do you care?

Sure - it's ignorant and prejudiced.

But I don't know if many blood donation organisations accept blood from foreigners. Maybe they can't or don't screen for HIV before using the blood taken?

Also - Koreans do seem to have a perception that EFL teachers are freaks and degenerates.

Maybe they read this list?

Sorry you had a bad experience - just let it go. They can't help it.

A nurse and doctor both said most foreigners have AIDS? Holy crap, and these people are educated? Looks like the world population will be under a billion soon then! And parents trust their kids to be around us AIDS-ridden foreigners! Not compatible with Korean blood? That is almost as dumb as anything I've ever heard.

Just a quick one on this subject.Last year while in Beijing i met a middle aged Irish guy,who had been travelling for the last seven years.Anyway,he went home every now and then to see his kids and a couple of years ago, when he went home to Dublin he thought he would do a charitable deed and give some of his blood. The Irish blood bank would not touch his blood because because he had been to so many tropical places. He was a bit bemuzed by this, but, what made it all the more strange to him was that every time he has visited China(and that is a lot)they cant get a persons blood out of them fast enough. So his blood is not good enough for his own people, but the good old Chinese will take it off any old person that crawls in off the street.
Interesting!!

My friend gave blood once in Mokpo and had absolutely no problem doing it. However, the needles they use are apparently not at all like the ones used in America, and a spot on her arm was really grossly black for a couple of weeks.

sure we have aids.

we're the ones from the nations where you can hire a teenager to come on a scooter to deliver coffee and fellatio. We've also got those pesky love hotels all over the place for all that illicit sex we're known for.

no wait

thats koreans.

I pray to the gods above that I never, ever get sick in this country...I wanna stay here but if I get sick you all can come to my funeral...just play "Danny Boy" on bagpipes and drink plenty of Guiness!

I guess I have to tell my girlfriend I have AIDS...all the doctors seem to think I do

Gee, I wonder if blood-type has anything to do with politics.

West = Donor
Korea = Recipient

So if Korean blood and foreigner blood are incompatable, what happens if a foreigner gets in an accident and needs a transfusion? Do they let you bleed to death? Do they call the nearest army base for blood?

In my humble opinion you either ran into a complete and utter idiot, or a Korean supremicist, or both.

pathetic, they should be fired as I seriously doubt this is the official policy of the Korean medical community. If it is, then Korea is even more pathetic than I thought it was.

I'd bleed to death. I'm A negative and good luck finding an Asian with A negative to donate.
