They're opening a Japanese donut chain in Myeong Dong. I only found this interesting because Jongno Guru once wrote a very funny story about his experiences with the chain in Japan. Pester him for a reprint

Yahweh help us. Those are the worst, most over-priced donuts on the planet. Good luck competing w/ DD and KK. |

Little taste of home for the Japanese tourists I guess. |

This is the Health Food Thread, right?
Does anyone like Winchell's Donuts? They were the first American donuts I recall having in Korea. They've been in country longer than all the others (Drunkin Donuts, Krispy Klux Kreme, Mister Donut) yet nobody ever talks about them.
Winchells (left) vs Krispy Kreme (right)
(cigs not to be eaten. only there for size comparison)
And just for the heck of it, the BBB (Bacon, Bacon & Bacon) Sandwich:

I disagree. I think Mr. Donut will do well here. In Japan, they have bottonless coffee for 230 yen (2000 won). Taste is not bad, not terrible. I just love the prospect of being able to drink down 3 or 4 cups of coffee and not have to pay $12.
Some of their donuts are outstanding. I am totally addicted to their Old Fashioned donuts because they are dense, heavy and chewy.
DD donuts are over-the-top sweet - disgusting.
KK is too gimicky and will never last the long haul.
What we need in Korea is Canadian Tim Hortons. They would crush all the donut shops in Korea. |

Whistleblower, you need to learn the fine art of reducing and cropping photos. |

Mister Donut is better than any of the baking soda-tasting shite they have in Dunkin Donuts and better than the sickly sweet glazed Krispy Kremes.
In Japan they also have (at least used to) scratch cards with with you can collect points for promo cutesy items. My sister visited me there once and went crazy collecting points to get some character umbrella. |
