interesting stuff to see. I don't quite understand what Laogaiguk meant, unless he was being sarcastic?
Anyways, just wanted to bump it.

* some white label *beep* that only me and three Japanese kids are into. In fact the whole style of music doesn't have a name yet and if you heard it, you'd go cross-eyed.
* A rare b-side by an indie band that only released one album. They sound a bit like something you'd be into, but obviously much better
* Definitely nothing by Girls Aloud. |

Is Cage's music interesting to listen to? (Or is his music more "academic"?) |

I like some of it, especially this piece, which is equally Tudor's composition as Cage's and basically signalled the end of Tudor as a pure pianist and the start of his work with electronics and as a composer in his own right. This is on Editions RZ, a fantastic label that seems to be able to do no wrong, from the 5-6 discs I've heard so far.
Cage wasn't very academic. In fact, he was a bit of an affront to the academy, and spent most of his time hunting for and identifying mushrooms and just generally being a hippy weirdo intellectual. I like his work for prepared piano best, myself, although some of the later stuff based on nature sounds (cactus needles, shells with water in them, etc.) is pretty great. |
