My public elementary school has some partnership with a hagwon. Anyways, they agreed to have a hagwon NT come in and teach 10 hours. They took 4 of those hours from me. The part that sucks is that the 4 hours they took are from my 2 favorite 6th grade classes. These are the classes that you look forward to coming to school to see.
So, to fill the void and to add more hours to my schedule, they threw in a ton of 3rd and 4th grade classes. The school also rearranged the schedules of my coteachers too so now they are unhappy with it.
Hagwon guy comes in, takes my 2 best classes, I get stiffed with additional 3rd and 4th graders who don't know anything besides "Hello Minsu!".
Awesome. |

That blows...
I got classes added to my schedule. So I went from teaching about 22 classes to 29. I actually don't mind my classes but I had signed up for online classes under the idea that I would have the same 22 class schedule.
There's no chance you can get the 6th graders back? After all, you have been at the school longer than the hogwon upsurper..

This hagwon guy can only work during 3rd and 4th period. The only classes available during the 3rd and 4th periods were my precious 6th graders.
To top it off, the other classes the new guy and I are going to alternate. normally each class sees me twice a week, so now each week the class will see me once, and then the new guy once.
That is going to totally mess up my groove. I'm going to be spending the first 10-15 minutes of every lesson trying to figure out what the other teacher has already covered. |

Not the least bit surprised anymore and I've only been here for 9 months. Jeez, when you think about it, that's kinda sad (that I'm not surprised anymore).
Happened to me and I was totally insulted by incursion of this fellow teacher. Not mad at the guy but the bloody school. By the time they pay the hogwan 50 or 60 bucks/ hour and out of that they pay him 20 or 25...they could have just paid me the 20(000) that I am allowed under the contract. It's completely mad but I don't care anymore. 3 months to go at this school. |

I tried everything and no go. My Korean coteachers even argued for my sake. We threw every reason we could at the admin office.
My Korean coteachers are angry too because their schedules had to be re arranged to accomodate with hagwon guy that is only going to teach 10 hours a week at my school.
I'm not mad at the hagwon guy. I'm 99% sure he had no part whatsoever in the decision making process and the schedule making. The new schedule starts next week. I'm hoping to ask the guy if he wouldn't mind swapping a few classes here and there. I don't think the office will care WHO is doing the teaching as long as the hours add up and there is someone in the classroom. |

29 classes? If you want to complain AND you are in Gyeonggi-do, provincial policy is a max of 28 classes per week for the NT (6 classes of OT per week @120k per week in supplimental pay).
But with an extra 560+k won per month and still home by 5... be careful what you wish for, you may get it.... |

Nah...I'm not going to complain. I wish I knew ahead of time so I would have delayed taking the online classes. The money is good and I definitely plan on getting some benefits from doing all this damn work in the form of vacation time
If I don't get that...I won't be helping them find a new teacher...that's for damn sure! |

I'm pretty sure he's legal. I was told he's been teaching at that hagwon for 3 years already. |

SUre, he's legal at HIS hakwon, but is he legal at YOUR school? If he doesn't have an endorsement on his ARC to teach at your school, then he's not. I would also be curious to know if a public school is actually even ALLOWED to hire a foreigner part time.
Not suggesting you jack the guy at all. As you said, it wasn't likely his idea. But you might want to ask him about it.
The extra dosh per month is nice... |

This is an utter insult to get an outsider to come in and give him preferential treatment.
Sure, it's not the hagwon guy's fault, but your school's. You are their primary NT and should have a lot more leverage in deciding which classes you want.
Just walk straight up to the responsible person at your school and tell him its a disgrace and you lost face. Make it known to them that you take it very personally. |
