It looks like Korea is going to be my next port of call on the seas of ESL.

Can anyone tell me what the live play scene is like over there? I'm mainly a cash game player and would welcome any advance information on venues, available limits, games and so on.

I heard a muttering about WSOP qualifiers from a Japanese friend of mine but I cant' seem to find out to much about it. Cheers for the help in advance chaps and chapesses.

There's not much of a cash game scene in Seoul. The Walker Hill Casino has recently started hosting weekly poker tournaments. $100 buy ins on Sat (which is linked to the WPT), and freerolls on Wed. and Sun. They are good tourneys, well worth a look.
Not sure what Sine Qua Non's post was about. Poker is not illegal, though being an absolute tw*t should be.

Very hard to find good cash games anywhere in korea as far as I know. Get yourself online though as the quick internet and cheap pcs make it easy to get started. I play pretty much only cash limit hold em and I havn't heard of anywhere in korea where I can play that. If anyone wants to play some short handed(5 or 6 players) limit hold em give me a shout.

Poker is not illegal for foreigners in casinos. The guy with a weird name is a tw@t. The cash games there are $2-$5 blinds and games start everyday at 6 and run until the game runs out. There are also higher stakes sometimes like 20-40 limit and 5-10 no limit, but they only start those tables when there are enough people for them.

Thanks a lot for the helpful information guys, I'll be sure to follow up these leads when i get over there. You'll more than likely bump into me at the 2-5 sometime. I've got my laptop so I'll probably just buy an external monitor or something if PT doesn't throw another epi like it usually does.

there are plenty of games around itaewon for modest enough stakes, float about there ask any normal characters in bars and they should be able to direct you. not naming where here...more of a sports gambler myself but it seems to be mainly holdem. some games in bars, some in houses. From what i gather from mates who play it's a mixed bag ability-wise. some koreans but mainly foreigners.

...and yes, there are plenty of reasonable people in itaewon.

There are a few places in Itaewon and Shinchon that have poker games. I've played a few, and they are quite gentle. Mix of Koreans and Westerners.

WSOP qualifiers do go on at Walker Hill on Saturdays. They also have freeroll tournaments on Wednesdays (7pm) and Sundays (3pm). Once you get knocked out of the tournaments, they have some pretty fierce cash games.

Not sure if I should list the bars online or not that hold poker games.. but I know I have seen others post them in the past. A quick search should help locate them.

There are games that happen in Gangnam but only for Koreans and kyopos (basically have to speak and look Korean). If you're a kyopo then you're better off asking another kyopo who's into gambling in real life.
