I am leaving my contract two months early. I have a LOR and I have been looking but I can not seem to find out how long I have after my last day to leave the country. I am talking to another school.surprise they want me to sign now lol everything is now I know lol. Anyway they say I have 24hrs to leave after my last day so I should sign umm lol now.
What I am thinking is taking my time and looking at every school and find the best fit. I figured if I have a week or two that would be helpful. Also, I was considering just going to Japan for the day and then returning to look more. But the more time before I need to leave the better.
Any and all information is highly appreciated. |

I believe you have to go to immigration and they'll give you an exit order for two weeks from that day. |

My current school said that they didn't have to go but just fax stuff in.
But 2weeks would rock! |

If you go IN TO immigration and get your visa cancelled they will give you an exit order. This will give you 14 days and then you MUST leave - no extensions AND your new employer will need you to make a visa run.
IF you have your release AND a new contract with the necessary paperwork you can theoretically "add/change your employer" without a visa run and just pay the 60k won fee.
Then you will need to extend your visa (another 30k won) and get your re-entry permits (another 50K won).
Total all up is 140k and a trip to immigration with your new boss and a letter/fax from your old boss giving permission (LOR).
Beats the heck out of an exit order and a visa run. |

It is possible to get an "Extension of Sojourn" and a "Transfer of Employer" without leaving the country.
I did this successfully and my visa was validated for another 12 months. I did not have to go on a visa run. You will need a LOR as well as a new contract to bring to immi, plus all the usual stuff. Fees were $90.
Regrettably, you have to get the right Immi clerk. Some will do it and some won't. Like all government agencies in Korea, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing and the clerks were fighting over how to process my visa. |
