Has anyone ever worked in a public high or middle school in Korea? What's the housing and pay like?
Where could I find these jobs? How can I contact the schools themselves?
Thanks. Titanicman |

Sure.

Can't speak for every school, but I've got a small yet nice studio apartment. The pay is lower than hakwon pay, you teach less classes, but you have more office hours. You also have a much, much higher number of students.

They're pretty elusive; it's more about being in the right place at the right time than anything else, if you try to get privately contracted by a school.
You can also take the easy route through EPIK.

Um, First you read this:
http://epik.knue.ac.kr/
Second you can do a Search here on Dave's Korean board and read articals like;
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=9263&start=0
Then you need to read stuff like:
http://efl-law.com/epik_pages.html
Some Educational Offices like Chollanamdo also run their own program as well as the EPIK program. Pay and conditions are the same as for EPIK. However you need to apply directly to the education offices that are runing the programs
Also a few schools hire directly. Most of the time you need to be in the know so to speak for these jobs or look on job boards like Dave's
And then if you are brave you apply. |

Worst contract I've ever seen was with one of the most famous high school/middle schools in Korea, apparently (according to some Korean friends), which shall go nameless. They were freakin' beggin' me to sign it, but I balked.
The pay was poor for the hours at this place, compared to your average university gig, but that may not always be the case. |
