Hey, remember that uproar over some anonymous postings by idiots about Korean women? No crime, no arrests, etc... But a rage for all foreign nationals (men) here that I even personally experienced.

Well, here you go Koreans:

Well, I didn't see anything.
Maybe a post within another thread.
Maybe worthy of a thread of its own (I think).
Sorry if creating a new thread has somehow ruined your day.
Wasn't my intent.

actually, we don't

many of us haven't been on line for a day or so

this thread's headline informed me of the development

i never would have read the slayings thread... now that it is relevant and useful for class discussion with my students...

the development is deserving of its own thread

He had lived in america since he was 8 years old. 15 years in america, so he was american, not Korean.

he was an alien resident, never got american citizenship, kept korean one

he was a loner who studied english in university

maybe that means he was fully integrated but just shy, a fully fluent member of American society studying literature and poetry

or maybe it means he didn't integrate well in to american society,... would surely have been laughed at in school not being able to speak english well when he was in elementary school... did he react by withdrawing THEN? speaking only korean at home likely, maybe playing violent computer games in his free time rather than have american friends... carrying resentment over the teasing

i suspect it may be a case of the failed immigrant story... being Korean is relevant but not essential to that storyline if indeed so

i have seen immigrants back in canada respond in all sorts of way, and when teenage immigrants withdraw, the results are negative, for the child and for society... not usually to such an extreme

(remember that student from India that went on a shooting spree last year in canada?)

it's not immigrant=bad .... it's about how some immigrants fail to integrate... and the fault is as much the society that makes fun of them, that pressures integration...

(we'll find out more details over time... i don't want to waste my free time this week on it... i'll check back and read some stories about it in a week or two, when more FACTS are known...)
