who have wished their condolences and sincere regret for what happened at V-tech, I want to give you my sincerest gratitude.
But to those that have shown nothing but ignorance, arrogance and apathy toward this because of some political motive....you can take a splintered broomstick with the end sharpened and stick it up your 5th point of contact......in other words, screw you!!!!!!!!! |

Now I don't want to take away from the fact that so many innocents were killed, but I really don't understand why Korea should be apologising...
The guy was brought up in America and so the american culture would have had more impact on his mental state than the fact that he was born in Korea.
America gave him access to these weapons.
An act like this has ever happened in Korea (according to my co-teachers) and yet it happens with increasing frequency in the USA.
You are accusing people of not apologising for political reasons and yet by blaming Koreans and expecting an apology YOU are making it a political issue.
Innocent people were killed during what hould have been the greatest time of their life. Many more will be affected in ways that you can never imagine. Try focusing your attention to what good you can do for them (or what good you can do for your country) rather than trying to blame everything on the only non-American aspect of this tragedy. |

Wrong, ask them about the Daegu subway fire or killings by bullied army recruits. They need to take their heads out of the sand, what a sad way to strike home to koreans that they can be just as fu<ked up as every other race.

Well,
True, he was brought up in the US
True, he did get his access to the weapon in the US
To say it never happened in Korea is wrong.
What about the guy who set fire to the subway train that killed over a hundred people? Wasn't that a kind of massacre?
About a month after the incident, there was almost no mention of it in the Korean media, as if they were sweeping it under the rug.
Yet, when the soldiers accidentally ran down those 2 middle school girls, the outrage is still felt even today, with some organizations using it to stir up anti-American feelings there.
Not to mention the incident at the military post near the DMZ where the soldier threw a granade into the sleeping quarters, killing and wounding a number of conscripts, many of whom were innocent.
Yes, he was brought up in America, but his upbringing and the mentality that he grew up on were Korean- he had to study hard in the name of family honor, which might have caused him to be pushed over the edge. Not to mention the insults he might have encountered during his studies. And since he was Korean, he might have had access to such sites as Daum and Naver, which display alot of anti-american posts or he might've visited Korea and was influenced by some of the young people he met during his visit.
And by the way, I found out a while ago that one of ex- ESL collegue's niece was one of the victims of the shooting. A person who in fact came to Korea for a visit once and I had the honor of meeting during that visit. So, this event DID take on a personal dimension
And yes, I do deserve an apology, if only for that.... |

In fact, I love Korea; the people, the culture, the food, the excellent transportation system, the convenient shopping, the easy access to good-paying jobs.
I am just trying to make sense of what happen and try to reconcile my love with the flashbacks of my experiences with the anti-American or anti-foreign attitude I saw in Korea and what I perceive to be this attitude being displayed in my own backyard. |

I'm more interested in something Real Reality pointed out.
Koreans go ga-ga to claim people like Hines Ward and that female golfer Michelle Wie, but this guy.... uh... oh, no... he's not really a Korean, because he has lived in the USA for so long.
In fact, the Korean gov't has gone out of its way to point this out on more than a few occasions so far.
If I have any beef with this situation, it has to do with Korean issues over such things. |

Your type of post examplifies exactly the reason why foreigners in Korea should learn Korean and understand general public's sentiment.
Truth be told, there were many backlashes against the advertising company for showing Hines and Mie and depicting them as honorary "Korean"
