They are all teenage boys so I figure that's par for the course. One was clowning it up like he was in the Matrix or something... everybody else was laughing and laughing. This was of course after they told me they wanted to talk about it.
wow...
I know they are basically kids... but... wow.
I had just finished reading the thread comparing how this would have went down if it had been a waygook shooting 30+ Koreans in Korea to the reaction of 2 little girls accidentally getting killed because they were playing in a convoy of tanks.
I went red in the face and let them have it as politely as I possibly could. Luckily my coteacher was there to translate but I really doubt she understood half of what I was saying.
They shut up pretty quick and we continued the class. Later on she told me that they wanted to apologize, she said that they were laughing at the other student's antics and not the actual event.
Still pretty damn shameful and I doubt I'll renew my contract there.
Anyway, from the wikipedia posting...

Historical context
With a death toll of 33,[114] this is the deadliest single-perpetrator civilian shooting in United States history, surpassing the Luby's massacre of 1991, in which 24 people were killed.[114] Internationally, it is surpassed by the 1982 massacre of 57 South Koreans by off-duty police officer Woo Bum-Kon and the 1996 Port Arthur massacre in the Australian state of Tasmania where 35 people were killed by gunman Martin Bryant. |
Could this be "Han" ?

I'm old enough to remember my classmates joking about How union carbide was the only one who killed more indians than john Wayne -- that and Ethiopean famine jokes.
Still, a phone call to their parents is required in a situation like that. |

Kids, man. Kids. Can you understand that? Seems no more than they understand life, death and murder. |

My last class did this as well. I then quieted the class told them that I was driving a tank. "Bump...Bump." Asked if that was funny and they said "no". Did they understand why I was upset at them? I sure hope so. I did go on to explain that they were both sad situations and I like Koreans. |

I think a lot of teachers in Korea, including foreign teachers, should be thankful for Korean gun laws today. |

Why are non-Americans so concerned about US gun laws? I have a feeling that it goes far beyond a concern for human life. In fact, I would venture to say that caring about human lives lost takes a distant second to other agendas. |

I mentioned the tank incident too.
This was a great way to do it though. |

I don't teach anyone, but I do take a Korean class at Yonsei. There were about 8-10 Kyopos laughing and whooping it up, having a grand old time and making jokes about it. I couldn't believe how goddam insensitive they were about it. Made me sick. Sad. I was out of their view, and they were speaking perfect English. |

No one mentioned it at my school, just another day. I made smoothies in a young class to teach about consanant blends. it was fun.

I teach adults also, one was concerned that it would be more difficult to get a visa to study in the U.S. Didn't seem to be concerned about the victims. |
