The Virginia Tech killer was Korean.

He spent his formative years as a Korean in Korea.

After moving to the U.S., he lived in a Koreatown where there are so many Koreans that some street signs have Korean subtitles ( CNN ) and the first generation immigrants didn't really need to learn to speak English ( National Public Radio ). Thus, he lived in a subplanted Korean culture.

His family was Korean. His neighborhood was Korean.

That said, I would not and do not say that this young man did what he did BECAUSE he was Korean. Some aspects of his thinking that led to his wanting to take revenge on "rich people" (revealing a money-focused life definition) and the brutality, punishment methodology to the way he carried out the killings - - - these do, to me, reflect his Korean upbringing.

However, in the end, I believe he did what he did because he was a mentally disturbed young man and, while some tried to get him the help he needed, he slipped through the cracks of a system that tries to balance individual rights and freedoms with the protection of society.

The only aspect of this whole controversy that gets me upset is someone saying "Oh, but he grew up in America." Horsehockey!

It is not said about people like Wie or Hines-Ward that they achieved what they achieved BECAUSE they lived in America. No, it is their Korean blood that is touted.

Well, if you're going to claim the achievements, you've got to take the failures in the same cup.

damnit why the hell are you posting this? i think, from all the news and tons of other threads, that by now it has been established that hes korean!
who gives a shit if he was korean laotian, german, veneuezalian or what? 32 people are dead and are neevr coming back and 32 families have been destroyed, the nationality matters not.

though in other news, I did hear rumor that the killer allegedly had the phrase "Ishmahael Ax" written on his arm atthe time of death.

That is a refrence to the koranic interpreation of Abrhahams saricifice, where as Jews believwe Abraham was going to kill isaac with a Knife, in the koran they say it was Ishamhael with an Ax.

Is the rtumor true.. I dont know..likely not, but I figured Id pass it along.
