Serious replies, thanks.

Anyone have some good tips about what to list, (job duties), for the average hogwan teacher? TIA

At the top of my resume, I always list in bold: my age, sex, marital status, nationality. and ethnicity.

Thats the most important for most teaching positions in Asia!

You really don't need a resume. A picture will do.

I know all of this- what about for AFTER you've toiled/slaved at a hogwan. What actual duties and skills can you claim?

Most of the people who will receive your resume will NOT be able to read it anyway. They certainly won't understand the fine nuances that we would put in a resume that would be read by a native English speaker or HRM professional.

Keep it simple and concise. 1 page is often enough.

They are interested in only a few things:

Do you have a degree that is verifiable? (parchment and transcripts).
Do you have a passport (you can indeed travel to Korea)?
Are you from one of the 7 APPROVED countries?
Do you like or have experience with kids?
(list job dates and job titles - the rest (job duties, etc) is not necessary)

Include a passport style photo and, if you really want the job, a photo of you interacting with kids.

My boss at my last job was worried about my age and thought I would NOT be good with kids until he saw pictures of me in a Halloween costume and dressed as Santa.

Not only did I get the job, I got 100k more per month than the initial offer based on the strength of those photos.

If you mean how to spin your hogwan experience into something useful that you can show employers back in the real world, then euphemisms are your friend.

Arguing with co-tchrs = liasing with colleagues
Debating with your boss over pay issues = inter-departmental negotiations.
Boring staff dinners = networking
Using Youtube for a week's worth of lessons = Using technology to promote curriculum development.
Kicking bullshite Minsu out of the class = refining behavioural management strategies.

etc.

If there is anything about you that your boss could brag to parents about, pimp it shamelessly in both your cover letter and your resume, show no restraint whatsoever. Include things like US News and World Report rankings for your school, standardized test scores, grades, ANYTHING that makes you look good.

Who was joking? Seriously, hakwon experience really doesn't help you pad a resume, especially if you only work for a year or two. You have to find it where you can!

Keep the resume fluff factual and linked to a potential job as much as possible. In the cover letter, highlight the fact that you lived and worked abroad, and what you gained from the experience. Again, this should be tailored to a target position.

I understand Wink , I was just asking in case anyone had something listed that I had somehow missed.
BTW- I do have "interpersonal communications, classroom and school-wide activities" and some other blah, blah, blah, listed already. Wink

Others may have the same question.
