Or even surrounding areas like Yeongdeungpo?
I'm relatively new here and I'm looking for drinking partners in the area, and bar recommendations. I stay really close to Guro Stn on Line 1.
Thanks. |

Guro doesn't really have a lot of foreigners, but you're a fairly short subway trip away from Hongdae and Sillim. |

Lucky you, the best rugby pitch in korea is out there. Why not head down with a frisbee or rugby ball or something and see if you can't rope some foreigners into a little exercise. |

No cool bars then hey? In my area there seem to be a lot of Chinese stores and restaurants, and Chinese massage parlors. Where exactly is the rugby pitch?
Thanks. |

There aren't many cool bars, but there are still a ton of bars and good restaurants. |

Sorry, let me elaborate, I meant bars with darts or a pool table at least.
Thanks. |

Korean pool halls are different than western ones. They are bright rooms that don't serve alcohol. You can find them everywhere, including Guro. The kind of bar you're looking for would be harder to find. |

The 'ren' is fourth tone, not second. Totally different meaning. Thanks for answering my questions about Guro in any case! |

There's at least 2 dozen foreigners living in the same building in Guro across from Sindorim station. |

Guro is close enough to Sinchon, Hongdae or Itaewon if you want to meet expats. |

I lived near Guro Station for years and there are tons of foreigners there, however they are mostly from South East Asia, Pakistan, etc.
Guro has tranditionally been an industrial area, but the district government has done tons of renovations over the past years resulting in higher real estate prices, particularly the closer you get the Sindorim Station.
There isn't much that is noteworthy around Guro Station unless you need tools, but Sindorim Station has the D-Cubed complex and technomart with shopping, cinemas, etc.
The Garibong/Namguro area is actually the Chinese area of Seoul, where you can find authentic Chinese food and Chinese only signs (unlike the "Chinatown" in Incheon).
Otherwise, there isn't much in the area but you aren't too far from Hongdae and other popular areas.
I loved the grit of Guro and spent many good years there; I hope you like your time there.
Incidentally--the rugby pitch is nearby Onsu Station, a couple of stops down the line toward Incheon. |
