I work in Bundang and live in Seoul. Where is the best place to exchange won for USD?
Thanks! |

There is minimal difference between banks regarding exchange rates. Any KEB or KB will give you a valid rate. |

Do banks give the best exchange rate? Or can I get better somewhere else? |

I exchanged a large sum of cash and got a VASTLY better rate by going to a money exchange shop in Itaewon vs going to the bank. It was a significant improvement. I guess if your doing a smaller amount and you dont want to hit up an Itaewon exchange place for it just head to your local bank and get raped over by the exchange rate... Also its best to shop around as various shops will in fact give you diff. rates. All in all im sure it comes down to the size your changing. |

I live near Itaewon, so that isn't a problem. Which shop is it in Itaewon? Do they consistently give a good rate? I am pretty much converting my whole pay to USD every month, so I was just wondering if there was anywhere that consistently has great rates.
Thanks for your response! |

I usually exchange at a few places in Songtan. I really try to avoid the banks. Maybe you can find some store in Itaewon that can do it for a better rate than the banks. |

Wire transfer rates at the banks are usually +/- 1%. Cash exchange rates at the bank are +/- 2%.
You can usually get the wire transfer rate if you transfer money into a foreign currency account and keep it there over 30 days. But I've had branches screw me over on that, and only give me the cash exchange rate.
I'm not sure what the rates are in Itaewon. |

Seriously this sounds dodgy but supposedly the money ajumma's in nomdaemun give the best rate. One of my korean friends said they give the best deal and that many Koreans go their to get dollars before they travel. You can see 5 or 6 of them sitting there and they will tell you their rate. |

Probably. If one doesn't the collective lot of them will. |
