Hey for those of you who have viewed my recent posts thanks for your help. We are about to sign with the Gyeonggi Board of education in Bucheon. I will be teachign at Buchon Sangil Middle School and karin is teaching at Buchon Girls' High School. Just wondering if any of you teach for this Board, or in the city and have any words of wisdom about the city/ School Board! Thanks

My experience with the board has been awesome. They brief the school on what to expect and on what they should do to assist you and they are quick at authorising things such as your airfare refund.

They will also do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The school is assigned funds to get you anything (within reason) that you require to teach effectively. They will allow you to redecorate your classroom and will provide you with a laptop should it be required.

All in all, very proffessional and very accomodating. Congratulations.

Unless your boss has a new BMW then the funds may be a bit less.

How much money do they get per teacher?:

We are going to be making 2.1 each, we needed more teaching experience to get bumped to 2.3. I feel this is fair. About where we found the job. My girlfriend met a recruiter at the University of Western Ontario's teachers school, at a jobfair. They were with a company called Canada 2 Korea and deal mainly with the Gyeonggi School board, and we had our choice wether we wanted elementary or middle school.

Gyeonngi is HUGE! I pretty much surrounds seoul so there is no way to let you know more about the place without knowing exactly where you are being located.... We only need town, not school Razz

Well, to sorta bump myself up, I'm going to Pyeongtaek next month and have yet to meet anyone on this board who's there! Shocked

I've always been comfortable in my own skin, but it would be nice to know that there are some foreigners there that aren't in the Air Force (unless thay're a cool group of people, that is)...

I'm in Bucheon at a middle school, but I checked out Sangil yesterday on a map and we're not all that close. Still, I'm in jungdong near the Canada Buddy and not far from that new place run by an English guy - the name escapes me. op, PM if you feel like having a beer and diving into what is likely the best burger in Korea...

And fwiw, I love Bucheon. It's not too big, but has everything I need.

I'm going to work in Anyang, next month, which is also in Gyeonggi province. It's my first time teaching abroad.

I've looked at lots of jobs in S. Korea. As a newbie, Gyeonggi public school jobs offer a good start e.g. 9-5, mon-fri only, 22 hours teaching hrs, 14 days paid vacation etc.

I like it! Laughing

All I can tell you is this:

Dongducheon is on Subway Line 1, which means that travel into Seoul is cheap and easy. It is a few stops up from Uijeongbu which means that you have a reasonable nightlife just a short journey away.

Pocheon is also near Uijeongbu but is not served by the subway. I have a friend there who hates it. He is no lover of buses (and doesn't trust himself to get the right one) so he tends to cab to Uijeongbu whenever he needs to escape... and at 20-45mins depending on traffic it is pretty expensive.

I have no clue about the other places.

If you are out in the sticks then you want to be well served by the subway. I would take Dongducheon over Pocheon any day!
