ATM's that have "business hours." What the heck is THAT about? The inability to use credit cards between certain hours of the day.

I beg to differ. The entire palette pre-1910 history has featured rigorous training in Chinese. Especially due to the civil-service exam system. |

Most of them studied Chinese classic literature with Chinese letters, not the actual Chinese language except for some people who wanted to be a translator. I think modern Korean school's English teaching methods were largely influenced by the old Japanese system. They studied as if they were doing math. That might have caused a big disparity between reading/writing and listening/speaking ability. I don't know how it has changed these days. When I was going to high school, foreign native teachers were a rarity yet. I never had one and hadn't had any significant chance to speak English until I set my feet on this continent. In ESL class here, I had a great time absorbing lots of things quickly. |

BINGO...I loved the article quoting a Korean woman saying we don't need foreigners telling us how to take care of our children. So the law was repealed because it was so inconvenient for people.
Apparently the fontenelle of a Korean baby is impervious to penetration by broken glass and metal. And Korean mothers have arms that go into immediate lock mode and cannot be moved unless you have one of those jaws of life things.
And my favorite is how if you sleep 8 hours a day and you are a student you will never be successful. 8 hours you are failure, if you sleep 6 hours you might get into Uni. but if you sleep only 4 or less and study the rest you can get in SNU. This actually is some kind of saying. I have students right now that are in Academy till after 12 and 1 a.m. These are first year students.
They need to have a curfew here. If I was 12/13 years old and wandering around at 12 the police pick you up and take you home. And ask your parents why you are out at that hour. Where I came from curfew for children was 10p.m. during the week and 12 on the weekends. Pretty well enforced. But what the heck do I know. Korean kids thrive on 2 or 4 hours of sleep a day.
Ranting cuz my kids can barely stay awake because they are academy extra late because of tests and a good number have gray hair.
