I have had a look and there seems to be nothing covering
this. What kind of satellite and able packages do you get in
Daegu or Busan? Do you get the BBC? TVE? (Spanish national
channel) I'm sure you get English language channels but if the
only English media outlet is the Fox channels then I'll go slightly
up the wall
Could anyone quote me any decent prices or of good cable/satellite packages? Cheers! |

i felt really frustrated trying to get cable myself, actually. i asked a coworker that lived in my building, and he tells me, "oh, i dont konw, my girlfriend helped me." i asked the doorman downstairs and he gave a phone number that was disconnected. i asked another coworker, who said i need to ask the landlord. i emailed human resources at my school who got my the apt to find out how to get in touch with my landlord & he told me i ought to talk to someone at the school. it really was making me all very angry.
angry not so much b/c people didnt know, but rather i was annoyed that it was something i couldnt do on my own. i hate asking for help, b/c often this is exactly what happens: you have to ask and ask until someone finally can help you.
also, having to lean on other people sucks, imo. for one it means you have to wait on people to get back to you (and how jerky i feel asking again if they've not gotten back to me in a few days) and for two i hate asking help from people i hardly know. i REALLY hate asking the korean staff at my school for help b/c they're so overworked and underpaid and im sure have better things to do than to take care of the new foreigner.
hey, thanks for letting me rant, davesters. anyway, i sucked it up and one of the korean staff at my school helped me. she was really sweet and kind and i think i ought to buy her chocolates or something. up until that point, i was using internet tv/movies as ttom posted. |

I know what you mean. I'm sure everyone here knows the frustration. Something very simple that you could do with no problem at home becomes a huge ordeal over here. Simply because you are unfamiliar with the process or the language barrier.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to go to a Korean bath/sauna by myself. I wanna go, but I don't know the procedure. Do you bring your own shampoo/toiletries? Bring your own towel? Do you pay first then go in or pay as you leave? Is there a time limit? |

My school saw this as something that they could help with ... And them doing this has actually meant that I need to pay less than I otherwise would have ... They have signed for a 3 year contract and this means that I will need to pay less a month than I otherwise would have.. My home internet and cable TV are part of the same contract which I will pay for each month through pay .. I am learning that it is ok ... and in fact expected that I will ask for help in things that need the Korean I don't have ... I no longer see asking for help with things like this as a problem ... Helping you to settle into Korea is part of their job and an important dimension in helping you to teach effectively .. Don't feel guilty asking for help ...
