This may have been posted about before, and it may have an obvious answer... but I'm sorta exhausted right now and need to get an idea of how long this will take to process.
I inquired with a friend at a law firm about obtaining a criminal background check, and she said she could refer me to a background-checking service her firm usually uses. However, I'm a bit miffed by this answer. I really thought the cop shop would be able to provide a report, but when I search the police department website, I only find information about securing a RAP sheet to clear a record.
Does someone have an easy answer to this? If I have to go through a private company, then how much should I expect to pay? Also, how long does the background check take to process?
Thanks. |

I just thought I'd push this forward because I'm still confused on the subject. I've looked into a couple of different solutions, and so far nothing gets the job done. I honestly can't believe it is this hard to obtain a criminal background check. The private company I called doesn't do the checks for inidividuals. The Clerk of the Circuit Court doesn't provide "background check services." Online services seem to be the only answer I'm finding so far, and I'm not sure I trust that route. So, if anyone has any advice on this matter, I would be very appreciative.
Thanks. |

| Thanks for the answers! I had already tried the State Police website, but apparently missed the appropriate information. Now I find I have a choice of choosing a finger print or non-fingerprint criminal history check. Weird. Well, I will check it out and perhaps stop in the local cop shop. At least I know I won't be spinning my wheels. Thanks for that. |
