Are you friends with all your coworkers, or do you only speak to them at work instead of hanging out with them after work? How do you feel if a coworker has a party and invites everyone but you, because the two of you don't like each other? It doesn't really bother me, because I have a life outside of work. I have never been friends with all the people I have worked with here in Korea. In fact, some of us could not stand each other. |

Your rival must be another "princess".
Theres generally only room for one most popular person. |

Sounds par for the course. I've worked with some losers and weirdos here, too.
BTW- are you talking about other native speakers or Koreans? I've had bad dealings with both. Luckily for me, I've made friends outside of school.

Princess, you spend most of your time whining about Korean girls, and how they're jealous of you because you're more attractive / thinner.
I don't understand how you can then be surprised when you're not invited to their parties.
Also - please don't respond with, "I don't want to go to the stupid party anyway", because you wouldn't be posting about it if you didn't want to go |

No, it's a whitey's party actually. And, they were all making hints about the party with me sitting there, like they expected me to start crying about it or something. I just ignored their comments and went home. I slept like a baby last night too. |

Are you asking about foreign co-workers or Korean? I make the distinction because at my school, management discourages us from socializing together. |

I am asking about both. Management hasn't excatly came right out and discouraged us all from socializing, but the Koreans sit on one side of the wall, and the foreigners/kyopos on the other side. Since we are all women, there's been some cattiness and gossiping going on, and these days, I am pretty much keeping my mouth shut at work. I can't trust them. |

Hi Princess,
I'm a great deal older than the majority of contributors...but my experiences have taught me the best way to lose your privacy is to associate with and/or date people you work with. For some folks, this is certainly NOT an issue. But, if you get on someone's--or the girl's/guy's bad side down the line--all of those little secrets and tidbits that were confidentially passed on can soon become common knowledge...even maliciously blown out of proportion. Your DVD of Shirley Temple suddenly becomes "child porn", your one and only gospel CD makes you a full blown "Jesus freak", the time someone gave you a present for helping them on their English essay suddenly beomes a situation of you're working "under the table",your comment about a girl having great legs now becomes concrete evidence you're an insufferable lecher, etc.
For me, work and my private life are/have been completely separate entities. Certainly there's nothing wrong with anyone or everyone who does go the other route. Then again, I have my fiancee, her family, and many connections I have made here....so if and when someone throws a party...I was probably busy anyway. |
