I have to decide on whether to get a landline or cell phone. I don't really need a cell phone because I work in one place and do not need mobility or contact people during the day.
What is the cost of installing a landline in your apartment in Korea? And what do you think are the advantages/disadvantages of a landline versus cell phone in Korea?
Basically I need to call relatives in the U.S., United Kingdom and France about once every week. Right now I am using a 10.000 won phone card (the one with the faces of children on the card) seems pretty good - called France for 9" mins. and that only cost the card from 148- to 138 minutes in time deducted - at least that is what the "voice" said ....
So in total time per week, I would only need to call the U.S., the U.K. and France for about 1-2 hours per week.
I would like to have a landline, because the apartment provided has a phone but is not connected for outside calls.
Thanks for any feedback you may have.

get a cell phone.
I lived without one for the first month or so, and it was horrible trying to get in touch with people while I was out and trying to meet up with them. Whenever I try to meet up with someone I always end up calling them or them calling me at LEAST once.
There's no need for a landline. |

A landline is much cheaper for using calling cards and the reception is generally better. You will still get charged for using the phone card on both phones and the land line is way chaper.
I think you will need a cell phone as most places are hard to find and the directions you will get here are shakey at best.
My advice is get both and don't use your cell unless needed. I paid 100,000 for my cell and pay 15,000 per month. The landline is chaep, but I'm not sure of the cost. |

My suggestion is to get a cell phone. My school gave me an older model for free and it costs around 30 000 a month with minimal calls. Pretty much everyone here has a cell phone and things tend to happen at the last minute.
As for calling overseas I suggest using skpe or yahoo voice. |
