My school is a little confused when I showed them my E-ticket for reimbursement. They want to see a "real ticket" -however what the airline told me is that old style tickets have been phased out- because people kept losing their tickets- and you simply need to show your passport on the day to get a boarding pass. Until then you simply have an electronic reciept ("E-ticket") for your flight. It must be a new thing- I was taken aback by it as well.
I've told them to call the airline for confirmation. Anyone have any similar problems?

Almost no-one issues the "traditional" ticket anymore.

Even many airlines ticket offices only issue e-tickets now as well. (From recent personal experience - PAL, Singapore Air, and Westjet).

If you paid at a travel agent you should get a separate receipt as well as the e-ticket and in my personal case that satisfied the powers-that-be in our school for ticket reimbursement.

Alternatively, tell them that they can book and pay for a ticket and you will get a refund for the one you already have.

I think your hagwon should travel more. E-tickets have been around for ages. As long as you have the ticket receipt sent to you as email then that should do. If you have anymore trouble contact labor.

I had the same hassle when I submitted the print out of my e-ticket for the refund. "But where's the real ticket?" Yeesh, Delayed my payment by about a week but I got it...that's the main thing.

They seem to have accepted it now. "Call korean air if you want. Call the travel agents."

I wish changes in Korea became widely known quicker. Always seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

next challenge: try to find out your street name and get something posted to you.

I've not seen a 'real' ticket since 1998...

My public school paid up from an e-ticket but I know a friend with a moronic admin department who stalled before they finally relented. They wanted his baggage tickets to prove he had flown here... guess they though he may have decided to refund his ticket and swim here...

This seems like the best place to ask this...

I received my e-ticket in my e-mail, but I don't really know what to do with it. All the characters are in Korean, or are just ????? ????. There was a printer logo that took me to a page full of ???????, but there was also an English translation, which made it look more like terms of agreement.

There was another link that showed my itinerary, and most was in English, but still broken up by ?s. Is that what I print out?

I'll probably just print out everything to be safe, but I don't want to show up at the airport with a page full of question marks and have them look at me like I have two heads.

Help a newbie out.

It sounds like you don't have Korean installed on your computer. Go to a PCBang and print it out. Its pretty cheap to print there and it will be nice to have the reassurance that it printed correctly. Theoretically, you only need to present your passport at the coutner, but you can really screw yourself by expecting Korean employees to know how to do their jobs. Go to a PC Bang or find a computer (maybe work) where Korean script is installed.

You could also try right clicking and selecting "encoding" and choosing the "Korean" option. Might work!
