I am new to Korea, but like to keep fit.

I have found a pool near my work, where they charge 3300 won per session. I have tried to ask about monthly rates, because I think some people do pay by the month, but cannot get through to the monolingual Korean workers at the pool.

Do you think most pools have a monthly rate which would work out cheaper than the 3300 per session that I pay? I usually swim 4 times a week, which would come to 52800 per month.

I am in a fairly small place in Gyeonggi-do Province, the name of the place being Anjung-eup, near Pyeongtaek city.

Do any of you guys have memberships for about 30.000 for month, just to use the pool?

Please can someone tell me how to say - do you have a monthly rate for the pool? in both romanized Korean, and actual Hangeul characters. Thanks.

You're shooting a little high--better start off by asking if you're allowed to even be in the pool in the first place, being a furriner. Laughing

The pool I used to swim at was a public facility.

It was 3,000 won per use, but there were also monthly rates. However, if the pool you go to is similar to the one I went to (likely), there is probably a detailed schedule that determines the monthly price and when you can use it. If you just want to free-swim, then you can only do that at set times each day. If you want to swim in a class, the classes have meeting schedules. The pool I went to charged 50,000 or 60,000 won per month for the free swim.

If I were you, I'd ask one of your Korean co-workers or the boss to go down there with you one day after work. A lot of Koreans would be happy to help out in this kind of situation.

Let me hijack the thread on a similar note: Is there a pool any where in Seoul that has high dives or platforms and allows foreigners to use them?

Monthly is okay - but be careful of one-year agreements.

I belonged to a great gym in Chung-ju. It was wonderful for a few months - but after a while it became clear they were not cleaning the showers and the pool became an ideal place to catch a good eye infection.

New places tend to pop up frequently even in smallish cities - they look great and are nice and clean. Then they start to cut back on expenses like cleaning people and toilet paper and soap and quickly go down hill - only to be replaced by a new place down the street.

The best pools I know are at Olympic park....

Use either Mongchongtoseong Station (exit 2) or Olympic Park station...

There are 3 (three) Olympic sized heated swimming pools

1 is for strict swimming, 1 is for practicing and diving, and the other is for amateurs/play...

cost for membership is - 20,000won (for membership and first month) - then 5,000won each month thereafter.....

that 5,000won each month - gives you unlimited use of the three pools...

of course if you don't live close to SongPa-gu/Gangdong-gu - its probably too far for you to travel....
