*i posted this in the 'off topic forum' earlier today, as i'd forgotten about the travel forum. mods please feel free to delete the other thread.*
we're planning to visit the states this summer. i've gotten my daughter a u.s. passport. and until she gets to the age when she has to choose one or the other, she'll have a korean passport as well.
for those of you who've done this before, please tell me which one (or combination) will be the easiest to travel to the states and back with. thanks. |

| American, American, American. Korean have to get a visa beforehand tovisit the states. If you use the American passport for your trip, you won't have to do that. Just be sure you use the same passport for the whole trip. |

Leave Korea with her Korean passport, enter and leave the US with her US passport. Enter Korea with her Korean passport again.

Not necessary.
I have British and Hong Kong passports and IDs - I enter and leave the UK with my British passport and for HK residents, we just need to show our ID when we enter and leave the city.
Letty's done the same. She has 3 (including Korean). We've entered and left Korea and other places with a combination of passports and IDs. |

I agree with tzechuk.
Leave Korea- Korean passport
Enter America- American passport
Leave America- American passport
Re-enter Korea- Korean passport
By having your daughter use her Korean one when you leave/enter Korea, she'll avoid having to pay the 30,000won re-entry permit at Incheon. If you face any troubles at check-in, remind them of this, as they don't always have the smartest desk help working. |

| Agree, I have two (Australia, UK) and my son, born Tuesday, will have three (Aus, UK, Indonesia). Whenever I have gone between my two respective countries (or EU states), I exit on the one I am in and enter on the other, saving all manner of visa hassles, plus you get the bonus of going through the native citizens' line. |

Use her Korean passport when she leaves and enters Korea.
Use her American passport for the remainder of her travels.
Minimum hassle this way and no worries about "residence issues" on either end.
