I saw it first hand. Friday night around 7:15 I was on the orange line and this guy and girl get on ( they are American or Canadian) I notice him as he is talking pretty loud and the girl he was with was kinda cute. Anyways I don't paytoo much attention, but I can hear this dude over the din of the crowd and then he starts rappin and I think WTF? I just put my head down cause I feel embarassed for this clown. So I change to the brown line and sure enough the dude and his "date" get in the same car again as me. Now this is where the show starts. He comes in, no seats open so he sits on the floor I can see he has a big beer in his hand, no biggie if your cool about it but buddy was anything but, I try to ignore him but then I guess some old korean man was lookin at him and so buddy stands up and starts saying(quite loudly) how he'll kick the guys ass. I think come on guy, he's an old man, how tough are you? His "date" is tryin to calm buddy down but dude is spewin shat like"you don't want non of this" and then he comes out with"I'm a gansta" "I just got outta prision" I think WTF buddy, you are just some white kid who's listened to too much rap and watch 1 too many episodes of prision break? Come on I had to get off at Hankangjin(hannam market closes at Cool so I couldn't stay to see the end. But I just want to say that I can understand why Koreans hate us, when you see a super loser like that.

So you're saying because of one jerk, who only a few dozen people saw, all Koreans are justified in hating white foreigners?

If you made a statement like that about black or Jewish people, you'd get accused, and quite justifiably, of being a racist. The principle is the same here.

This guy my friend works with likes to throw stuff at people in restaurants. He'll throw ice, food, whatever. He does this EVERY PLACE HE GOES. Thinks it is hilarious. He's Canadian, if you're wondering.

There are a lot of poorly behaved foreigners here. It's embarrassing.

Say a Korean person meets 10 foreigners in one day. Nine of them are perfectly well behaved. One tries to start a fight with an old Korean man for no reason or otherwise does something stupid. Who is the Korean person going to remember? Who will they tell their friends about?

And it goes the same for us. We interact with tons of Koreans on a daily basis who are perfectly polite and doing their thing. But then maybe we see a drunk adjossi do something stupid or some Korean dude wearing an ugly pink shirt, and we immediately go onto Dave's to post about how all Koreans are drunk and crazy and wear ugly pink shirts.

I think there is a feeling that Koreans are passive and won't stand up to a whitey. This gives punks like the one you saw the Balz to do and say things they would never think of doing at home. The guy is obviously a bully and a loser; you shoulda stepped in and told him to shut his mouth, or have shut it for him(my choice).

But if I was on the same train I wouldn't hesitate to put that guy in his place for misbehaving. When a Korean in a bar tries to pick on a foreigner...oh well you know the rest.

Actually, you are completely wrong here. About a quarter of the posters on this board would do that, and the other 90% of foreigners in Korea wouldn't. I see people doing stupid stuff here everyday and I don't come on here and post about it, just like most other people here don't. Maybe you do, but most don't. Just like most Koreans will immediately forget about it within 10 minutes of leaving the train.

I didn't see anything in the OP that mentioned the foreigner attacking anyone. The OP said the foreigner sat down on the floor with a large beer and was talking like a gangster to an old guy while sitting on the floor. Could it be that the drunk foreigner was attempting humor?

Well now I know why they don't want to sit next to me on the subway, even when I wear a suit and my company pin on my lapel. Very Happy

There have been posts similar to this (in fact it wasn't too long ago) talking about a similar situation. I tend to agree, there's probably one for every ten that's a total and complete ***.

Now granted, none of us (except the OP) were there, so it's hard to know what happened other then what the OP posted. While confronting him might sound like a good idea, in the long run it would probably get you in more trouble then it's worth.
