Anyone taching the Jakjeon-dong, Geysan-dong, Imhak-dong, etc. Area of Incheon and want to learn tae kwon do? I have been attending a GREAT dojang headed by the President of the Master's Society. Our gwanjangnims speak a little english, and our sabonim speaks enough to very effectively teach us.
They have opened a class that now only has two students (foreigners) in it and goes from 11:30a-12:30p every day (you can go less frequently if it is too much for you). There are also night classes for those public school teachers that get off around 5-6pm. PM me for details. It's great exercise, and an excellent way to learn and appreciate the culture a little more while you're here. Many foreigners have achieved their first black belts within a year if being diligent and consistent! |

Lol. Many Koreans get their 1 dan doing nothing and having zero skills. |

Yep. Many also develop good skill and become pretty good at sparring, rather than in the US, which often teaches no-contact sparring and such. Here, belts are often awarded more for consistency and diligence (effort), rather than actual technique.
It's not just foreigners, either. Many of my friends here are 3rd-4th dans, and they haven't done tae kwon do since they were in high school. I'll be here another several years, on my way to 2nd and hopefully 3rd dan.
In the states I would have to agree that a 1st dan most likely has much more skill, and definitely more experience, but I've also seen some absolutely peche sparring from both lots |

Hi jackson7,
I'm a recent arrival from Australia to Incheon (I live near the Arts Center and City Hall subway stations), and am interested in trying out tae kwon do (I'm a beginner). I work hours are from 1-7.30pm, and was wondering if there happened to be a taekwondo class late at night (and how much it costs)? My email is [email protected]
I'd love to hear from you.
Best wishes and kind regards,
Dave |
