I'm now missing two packages, one a bunch of baby clothes from my mother, another books from my university in Australia. Who should I contact concerning this? My local dong post office or the central one in the city I live in?

I think you'll have to get the Australian postal service to track the packages (assuming they're from Australia).

Call the local post office soon. I have had a few packages that the post office couldn't read the address on (or the sender left out part of it) and they sit at the post office for a month before they are sent back.
The other possibility is htat they are stuck in customs somewhere.
