Having lived in Thailand for a large portion of this millennium I have had time to observe and read about many peoples experiences and views on the culture and society.

Since moving back to Korea this year there is an interesting fashion here towards foreigners rescuing animals then needing to find a home for them because they are only on one year contracts.

Back in Thailand I knew of two foreigners in the years that I was there who went out of their way to rescue street animals. Not to say it didn't happen.

The people who spent most of their time rescuing or feeding the street animals were the Thais who cared and would be there for them in the foreseeable future.

I appreciate the compassion involved with rescuing these nice animals from a certain death on the street (then again animals are rather hardy if needs be). I know that our Western views sometimes take over we just can't help ourselves.

What is the deal with Korea regular posting of regular animals needing adopting. It's not exactly responsible to take on an animal then not continue with the caring because you have to return to your home country to work or have a normal life.

Over on one of the other classified sites somebody had a cat up for adoption that if it wasn't adopted would be chucked out on the street.

Another girl was trying to give her rabbit away to a good home because she was leaving, yet she would appreciate $25 for the cage and box.

I know you rescuers believe you are doing the right thing taking these cats and dogs in and saving them, but before you do it think about what you are going to do with them. Are you going to end up pushing them onto a friend because you can't take them home with you?

Flame away.

I have no clue why people do it. Maybe they are lonely? Selish?

Whatever their reason, it always annoys me when I see yet another posting for a puppy, cat, etc which needs a good home because their owner is leaving Korea. Rolling Eyes

I think its awesome that people RESCUE animals and then need to find homes,....but when they BUY them and leave, that sux. sure.

But also, if you don't like a post, don't open it = doesn't bother you Wink
