Cannot the British attend a football match without descending into a state of barbarism...?

BBC Reports wrote:
Trouble began at the Britannia Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent at the end of a match between Stoke and Hull City when Hull scored a late equaliser.

Supporters in the Lower West Stand began trying to rip up seats and abusing stewards.

The violence continued outside the ground and police used batons and CS spray. Ten people were arrested.

A police spokesman said the majority of those arrested for violent disorder were Stoke City fans. They have now been released on police bail.

"We are appalled that a group of criminals decided to involve themselves in such behaviour.

"Ordinary, decent supporters must have been frightened by the actions of those involved."

Police would be looking at CCTV pictures of the trouble and said they expected to make more arrests.

They would also be seeking banning orders for the fans, the spokesman added.

"What an appalling way to approach the end of the season," he said...

Again...I agree. We're bloody animals when it comes to football. "Emotions run high cause we're so passionate" is a typical barbarians response. I'm ashamed of that aspect of our culture.

Gopher, I am glad you followed my suggestion by posting this stuff.
It shows you have a sense of humor. That's grand:) I always thought the British were some of the most violent chaps in Europe. Of course, the Italians going nuts didn't look good for Italy. I do think that the British and Americans have many similarities. If Britain had similar gun laws with many of the attitudes in England, you would have similar results.
Britain has a lot of minorities, a lot of rowdy drinking people, just like the U.S. deep South. Except, the Brits are not so religious, they are far less religious and the Canadians are in the middle when it comes to that.
I don't think England is the model for Europe when it comes to violence.
The U.S. and England among the Western civilized countries have more and more youth acting nucking futs (I can't say bad words on here so guess the word). Canada is also getting somewhat worse, especially in Toronto and in certain neighbourhoods there.

Anyway, cheers... for these funny threads.... Gopher, why are you so anti-British? I mean it is too much, you British hater!

No one seems to say much about Irish violence? It doesn't hit the headlines....

Agreed. English heads belong on the end of a baton.

What it is, is sheer boredom in the society. I mean what do people live for in Pomland? work, watch big brother, go to the pub. Work, watch big brother, go to the pub. they have no life. I you want to get passionate, let it be about something real! Not a stupid little game.

My advice to English folks: try to find a purpose for your existence.

Viva la carabinieri!

Thank you for noticing, Adventurer.

By the way, look again: I gave the Irish what they deserve, the whole car-bombing, terrorist-culture lot of them...

Your business is your own, but in the interest of the other person, have you ever tried not bringing their hopes up, and not wasting their time by simply saying, 'no, thank-you.'

I don't like hurting you boys Embarassed ...so...easier...sometimes not to make a scene.anyhow I already have a few guys I hang out with, they're really good friends actually.

Big [black] equus, it can be awkward i mean what would you do if you were approached by a lot of guys who want to take you out? If I'm a bit*h they end up hating me or saying stuff, if I'm nice they never leave me alone.

Does anyone know the legend of the Hartlepool monkey?

http://www.thisishartlepool.co.uk/history/thehartlepoolmonkey.asp

Quote:
The monkey-hanging legend is the most famous story connected with Hartlepool. During the Napoleonic Wars a French ship was wrecked off the Hartlepool coast.

During the Napoleonic Wars there was a fear of a French invasion of Britain and much public concern about the possibility of French infiltrators and spies.

The fishermen of Hartlepool fearing an invasion kept a close watch on the French vessel as it struggled against the storm but when the vessel was severely battered and sunk they turned their attention to the wreckage washed ashore. Among the wreckage lay one wet and sorrowful looking survivor, the ship's pet monkey dressed to amuse in a military style uniform.

The fishermen apparently questioned the monkey and held a beach-based trial. Unfamiliar with what a Frenchman looked like they came to the conclusion that this monkey was a French spy and should be sentenced to death. The unfortunate creature was to die by hanging, with the mast of a fishing boat (a coble) providing a convenient gallows.

In former times, when war and strife

The French invasion threaten'd life

An' all was armed to the knife

The Fisherman hung the monkey O !

The Fishermen with courage high,

Siezed on the monkey for a French spy;

"Hang him !" says one; "he's to die"

They did and they hung the monkey Oh!

They tried every means to make him speak

And tortured the monkey till loud he did speak;

Says yen "thats french" says another "its Greek"

For the fishermen had got druncky oh!

-----------------------------------------

Hammer his ribs, the thunnerin thief
Pummel his pyet wi yor neef!
He's landed here for nobbut grief
He's aud Napoleon's uncky O!
Thus to the Monkey all hands behaved
"Cut off his whiskers!" yen chap raved
Another bawled out "He's never been shaved",
So commenced to scrape the Monkey, O!
They put him on a gridiron hot,
The Monkey then quite lively got,
He rowl'd his eyes tiv a' the lot,
For the Monkey agyen turned funky O!.
Then a Fisherman up te Monkey goes,
Saying "Hang him at yence, an' end his woes,"
But the Monkey flew at him and bit off his nose,
An' that raised the poor man's Monkey O!

In former times, mid war an' strife,
The French invasion threatened life,
An' all was armed to the knife,
The Fishermen hung the Monkey O!
The Fishermen wi' courage high,
Seized on the Monkey for a spy,
"Hang him" says yen, says another,"He'll die!"
They did, and they hung the Monkey O!. They tortor'd the Monkey till loud he did squeak
Says yen, "That's French," says another "it's Greek"
For the Fishermen had got drunky, O!
"He's all ower hair!" sum chap did cry,
E'en up te summic cute an' sly
Wiv a cod's head then they closed an eye,
Afore they hung the Monkey O!.

Yes we British are a savage barbarous lot...you should know by now! Razz

Come on mate, why are you posting that? Who cares about League Two?
Seriously....it's difficult to find people who care about league 1 in England, let alone league 2, and yet you're on here talking about Hartlepool!!!You're on crack mate.

Half the ppl on here won't be familiar with arsenal and tottenham and you're on about Hartlepool. I'm baffled. No disrespect intended of course. Just don't know what you're doing.
