I'm on the GEPIK programme and want to re-sign with my public elementary school. I have 1 year' previous experience in a hagwon and this year in the public school - 2 years experience in total. My current monthly salary is 2 million. I don't have a TEFL/TESOL certificate so what will my salary be if i do the second year with GEPIK? After speaking to a few other foreign teachers also working at public schools, i was under the impression that my salary would go up to 2.3 million but by co-teacher told me today that it will only go up to 2.1. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance for information anyone can give me.

Yes, its correct. I'm only on the 2.3 because I have a CELTA.

Hi Junior,

Would GEPIK recognise a TEFL/TESOL certificate from an online course?

They will recognize any TEFL/TESOL certs as long as they are over 100 hour course.

Thanks for the info. That leads me to my next question. Can anyone recommend an online TESOL/TEFL course that is comprised of 100 course hours and how much would it cost?

Tell then that you want 2.2 or they can find a new teacher - end of discussion.

Then make sure they see you cruising the job listings on Dave's and make darn sure they are aware that you are looking for a new position and will NOT re-sign for less than 2.2.

They have wiggle room and if they want to keep you they will wiggle.

If they are not happy, they will not wiggle and you will pick up a new position in a different public school without difficulty for 2.1 anyway.

Thanks for the info guys. Spliff - I'm with GEPIK and my school have asked if I would like to re-sign. I have to visit immigration to renew my visa but my co-teacher deals with all the GEPIK paperwork.
Mehamrick - the TEFL course looks good but my main concern is finding one which will provide a certificate stating that it is comprised of over 100 hours. I think GEPIK will only accept a certificate which states that the course was over 100 hours.

I haven't seen their certificate but I would assume if you take the 140 hour course then it would so state that on the certificate.. I also know there is a place on their website to verify that as well.. if your school should want or need to do that..

http://www.teflcorp.com/ol-home.htm

is a 100-hour online course which you can take for $190 (US) without tutor support, and $290 with tutor support.

edit: I'd given you the wrong price!

Why even go through GEPIK again? Couldn't you just contract directly with the school instead?

I would tell my school "Hey, I liked working here and you guys were great to me, but there are a bunch of other offers out there. If we can work out a deal outside of the GEPIK contract then I'd be more than happy to stay."

Seriously? Shocked

You would think that the public school system (nay, immigration) would be hip to this.
