I had a different soundcard (soundmaster?/blaster?) in a previous pc and have a cd with its drivers on it, and in the new pc the ac97 inserted itself on there, perhaps with some CD linked with the vga, I can't remember .. The question is can I just delete the ac97 and install the drivers of the soundmaster and run it, or is the ac97 soundcard somehow built in to the chipset or motherboard?
You can use your soundblaster card instead of the inbuilt ac97. I used to until my card stopped working. If if doesn't set it up automatically you can usually disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.
