I'm just curious.
Option one is inevitable death. But you're going out with a bang, could even be....well, adrenalin is involved, endorphins, even transcendence.
But option two - there is a small chance of survival. |

What about jumping without a parachute, only to land in shark infested waters?
In reality, it would really be dependant on the altitude of the plane. |

Long-Fall Survival report.
Notable Free Fallers
I.M. Chisov Lt. I.M. Chisov was a Russian airman whose Ilyushin IL-4 bomber was attacked by German fighters in January of 1942. Falling nearly 22,000 feet, he hit the edge of a snow-covered ravine and rolled to the bottom. He was badly hurt but survived.
Alan Magee Alan Magee, a gunner on a B-17 with the 303rd Bomb Group of the U.S. 8th Air Force, was on a mission to St. Nazaire, France in January of 1943, when his bomber was set aflame by enemy fire. He was thrown from the plane before he had a chance to put on his parachute. He fell 20,000 feet and crashed through the skylight of the St. Nazaire train station. His arm was badly injured, but he recovered from that and other injuries.
Nicholas Alkemade In March of 1944, Nicholas Alkemade was the tail gunner in a British Lancaster bomber on a night mission to Berlin when his plane was attacked by German fighters. When the captain ordered the crew to bail out, Alkemade looked back into the plane and discovered that his parachute was in flames. He chose to jump without a parachute rather than to stay in the burning plane. He fell 18,000 feet, landing in trees, underbrush, and drifted snow. He twisted his knee and had some cuts, but was otherwise alright. |

Man Punches Great White Shark And Lives
Friday, January 15, 1999 8:19 ET
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African paddle skier attacked by a four meter-long man-eating Great White Shark punched it on the snout to escape, the Citizen newspaper reported Thursday. ''As the shark attacked I instinctively hit it in the mouth with my right hand. The shark then sank its teeth into the side of my ski...I actually felt its nose touch my leg,'' Evan Ridge told the newspaper. |

......and what is under you.
After falling a ?? distance, your body will stop accelerating.
Depends on the style you choose to fall in, head first being the bad option.
You would travel quicker too! |

Shark for me. I spent time diving for a living, and one spot had a number of seals around. There were certainly White Pointers in the area, as there was a big breeding colony about 30 km away, but we never saw one. Meeting them was an oft visited conversation topic when on the island.... but not one diver I have talked to ever saw one there.
Well not quite true. One group turned up to go to the island one week, and found a number of boats crowded around not far from the island. The went over to see what was happening and there was a dead whale floating in the water. There were many sharks feeding off it. They went home.
One lady who I did many dives with on the island was eventually taken by a leopard seal in Antarctica, and another man who did his honours in the same lab I did was also taken by a White Pointer a little while ago.

Jumping out of the plane would be much less scary for me, way less, as I know I'll have some thrills then unconsciousness well before hitting the ground.
But I would take a fighting chance against the shark, gouging its eyes out with my fingers at least (wish I'd have a pocket knife)
That said, some people have survived freefall without a parachute. Not many, but a couple. And from friggin' extreme heights too! |

I wouldn't want to survive falling out of a plane. I'd want to survive a shark attack, because it would probably give me some gnarly scars that chicks would dig. |
