AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Authorities say an 18-year-old Korean student attending Auburn University was assaulted by four males outside his dorm room.
According to Auburn Police Captain Jerry Holder, the student, whose name was withheld, was beaten up shortly before midnight Thursday at Lane Residence Hall.
The F-B-I was called in and agents are trying to determine if the attack was a hate crime.
It occurred three days after the horrific shootings at Virginia Tech.
Holder said the victim was reluctant to discuss the incident or seek treatment, but others convinced him to report the attack.
Police said the student, who arrived at Auburn about a month ago, suffered minor injuries.
Auburn President Ed Richardson called the assault quote "disturbing" and said university officials will monitor the student's recovery and help him return to class.
He also said the school is working with authorities to identify the suspects. |

I wonder if this type of violence is a routine thing in that area...

Doesn't lynching imply hanging? |

I was called a chink every day while a freshman at Ohio University, so I wouldn't be surprised that in the Deep South, stuff like this happens. |

That is an interesting anecdote to raise. Lots of us get worse slurs on a daily or near daily basis in every part of Korea. Does this mean that Korea is one huge redneck nation? |

I have a funny Alabama story. Friends of my parents were on an RV trip across the US, and when they were somewhere in the south, their sleep was interrupted late at night by bright lights outside and a cop speaking on a loudspeaker telling them to come outside with their hands up to find they were surrounded. They complied and were told to lie on the grass. Then at some point, one of the cops said, "Oh, you're from Alberta? We thought your plates said Alabama. Alright, you're free to go."
When I was younger I thought there must have been some kind of war down there. |

Racism happens everyday in korea against foreigners....and it also happens elsewhere in the world. It's a fact of life, deal with it.
One must realize the source and understand that the racist person is an ignorant uneducated fool and their parents did not do a decent job of raising them. |

the four males who assaulted him must have wet their pants when they heard the FBI was called in on the incident
that Korean student won't have anything further to worry about from them |

I'm curious to know why they did it. It might have been a typical "the guy was talking shit, so we kicked his ass" type deal.
Yet, because a Korean shot up VT last week, it's a hate crime.
You just can't beat up innocent Koreans anymore. |
