... and bowing. That always makes me smile. I am sure I do it to. But not the pointing. I know I don't do that. I was watching this guy give directions on his phone for someone to meet him. It was quite amusing as he was pointing up and down the (otherwise empty) street for the guy on the other end who clearly could not see him.

I wonder if it is a function of speech that triggers gesticulation and other muscle movement; Bowing when speaking (on the phone) to a superior, or gesturing (while on the phone) to people who cannot see it? Hmm... maybe there is a paper-mill degree in there if I can come up with 33 pages of crap and post it on the Internet, I might qualify for a PhD. somewhere... and yes, I am Canadian, so I have that pre-requisite met.

in customer service training, they teach you that if you smile while talking on the phone, that you will make a more peasent impression on whoever you are talking to. its a conditioning thing I imagine. When we are happy, we usually smile, so when we smile we must be happy.

too bad none of the cs reps that I ever deal with have heard this ><

Yes, I have always heard that you should smile while speaking on the phone because the person on the other end can feel that you are smiling.

For similar reasons, when you have a job interview over the phone, it is recommended that you dress professionally. If you feel professional, you will sound professional. If you're interviewing while laying in bed in your pjs, you're going to feel more casual, and will probably sound it.

I find when I use a cell phone, especially the larger, non-sliding phones in North America, I still put the phone down mic and speaker side down, as if I were putting it back in its cradle, even if I have to turn it over awkwardly to do so.

That's a great video Kermo. I love kids with phones!

Yay! I'm glad you watched it. I get such a kick out of it. I have even used it with very low level English students.
