What's the best mall in Fukuoka for western brands - across from the immigration office, the Tenjin arcades or the underground shops? Any others you can think of?

I found a really good one a bit out of the way last time i was there

It is under the huge ferris wheel but has a lot of shops and brands there, like an outlet mall with some good prices...at Marinoa City.

Lots of buses go there....thats how i got there and it was easy to figure out.

here is the english guide...

It's the same price no matter when you buy it but be sure to buy a round trip ticket because a return ticket is much more expensive if purchased in Japan.

I often go to Fukuoka (lived there for 6 years) and the last time I went the ticket from Busan was more expensive. Go figure. The JR Kyushu Beetle English website offers a book of 6 tickets (3RT) for Y20,000 (KW 150,466).

I read through the thread but was wondering if anyone has any updated info on hotels to stay in?

A friend and I (two guys) were looking for a cheap hotel for the night of the 27th and 28th. It seems like every place I try under 7500 is already booked. (My fault for waiting on a busy weekend) Anyone have any recommendations? Under 5000 a person a night would be great. The cheaper while still close to "in town" as possible.

Also, does anyone have any good link(s) to nightlife/food/shopping/sites in Fukouka? The only real bar I know of was "Happy <i>Cok</i>".

TIA

Go to http://www.fukuoka-now.com and along the left side you'll see a link for hotels.

As for nightlife, in Tenjin just ask any foriegner where Oyafuko Dori is. Oyafuko is where the majority of gaijin (foeigner) bars are located. My personal favoriet is Cottonfields in Nakasu. They have a 2 hour all you can drink from a special beer cooler plus one snack (the fried taco is best) for Y2000. Now please keep in mind, prices in Japan are higher than Korea so don't get freaked out. Also, during the summer, almost every roof top has a beer garden. It's a standard deal, basically Y2500-3500 for 3 hours of all u can eat and drink. Pricey but lots of fun...

Shopping? Depends on what you're looking for. Canal City is a nice shopping center in the middle of Fukuoka. Electronics, go to Bic Camera in Tenjin, or Yodobashi Camera in Hakata near the station.

Any specific questions, let me know. Oh, I will be in Fukuoka during that time myself so feel free to PM me.

I'm heading to Fukuoka on a short break in a few weeks. Not a visa run. Anyway, I'm wondering if it is easier to find an international ATM (I remember it being unnecessarily difficult in Osaka) or exchange my money here before I go?

Is it just possible that I could use a foreign card in most shops/restaurants/bars and then worry about paying it when I return to Korea?

Any Japanese post office has an international/bilingual ATM. Additionally, Citibank has international ATMs. The best exchange rate is at the Busan Int. ferry terminal in Busan.

Thanks.
One more question, sorry if it's been covered, but I don't want to slog through 16 pages of replies...

Do I have to reserve a ticket for the ferry? I'd like to leave Busan on the early morning one. I found a Japanese site, and it says that it's already booked. If this is the case, I want to get on the next earliest one available. I can't find a Korean site to confirm this. And as it's cheaper from the Korean side, I'd like the better deal too.

Thanks

I'd try my best to get a reservation before hand. Nothing worse than showing up and all the boats being booked. The site may say full but check with some travel agents. I guess you could try for stand-by but you usually end up standing there saying, "bye." If you have any problems when you get here, email me-I'm a 6 year Fukuoka vet... I'll be in Fukuoka until Aug. 13.

Well it appears that you will have to extend your holiday in Fukuoka unless the typhoon does a 180. Typhoon Usagi (Rabbit) is supposed to hit the Fukuoka area around 9AM on Aug. 3rd, so I highly doubt the Beetle will run. If you have any questions, please PM me.
