|
|
I need 2X1GB sticks of DDR2 800 RAM.
I did a search on Danawa and the prices went from 54,000 to 224,000 won. Some of the brands I recognized like Kingston, Transend, PQI, OCZ.
My question is with the cheaper RAM sticks that were in the 54,000-80,000 won price range. Are any of those brands ok? I'm not looking to overclock or anything like that. |

Depends on what you are doing with the system. For certain things, cheap RAM will be slower. Video work, encoding, gaming (to a certain degree), audio encoding...cheap RAM will be a tad slower. Perhaps you won't really notice unless you are crunching huge files.
However, cheap RAM may also be error-prone. Don't buy the cheapest, but you need not go to the top either. Middle of the road is safe, from a reputable maker. |

I think this is sort of similar to the SD card thread that I posted a while ago. You pay for what you get but is it worth paying top dollars for what's out there?
I bought cheap RAM before and they did work for me. It all depends on how long you'll be using your current computer. If you're due for a total upgrade in less than a year then you don't need to spend too much. RAM is RAM they should just work. Of course if you are looking at brands that no one has ever heard of (check the hardware forums) then it would be best to avoid it.
PS. I'm going with Transcend for SD cards, good middle of the road brand. |

Since I need 2 sticks, the difference price between cheap and decent RAM is an extra 100,000 won
60,000 won X 2 = 120,000 won (no name brand)
110,000 won X 2 = 220,000 won (regular brand name)
I want 2 sticks so I can run it in dual channel. My processor is an AMD X2 4200+. |

Go with that. Until you post the brand, no idea... |

I would go with OCZ or Kingmax (In my system) before I would choose any of those. In fact, I wouldn't choose any of those. |
