Ok I teach kindergarten at a Hakwon, and my boss has said she thinks we need to add a sex education component to the curriculum at some point. She says that this is because Korean kindergarten already does it. Is this true? I really have a hard time beliveing that sex ed happens in kindergarten. Has anyone else had a similair issue? or is she smoking something?

I have not seen it but apparently it does exist, one of my friends worked at a hogwon in seoul and once a year they brought in a korean "expert" and taught the boys and girls seperatly. Mostly it was singing about your gochu and stuff like that. Thats waht I heard. It was supposedly quite funny.

I've taught kindergarten at two different hagwons and have never heard of sex education being taught. It doesn't seem like something that should be taught to only 6 and 7 year olds (Korean age).

I'm assuming they don't mean real "sex education." Maybe they just explain how girls and boys are different? How mommies make babies, etc? I mean, even in the stupidest parts of America, you're not going to have 5 year olds being taught about VD's, abortion and rape. I mean... cmon.

Scott,

Your probably right, it could be a "dumbed down" version of sex education.

Sounds like a bad idea. I would personally only teach sex ed to Korean students if I were at gunpoint.

Why does Kindergarten Cop come to mind.. I can see the little guys running home to mom and dad going..

Guess what I learned today
Whats that honey
I learned about penises and vaginas today..

Of course you would be blamed for spreading the filth to the little guys..

Director to angry ajumma.. But the foreign teacher thought it would be a good idea..

No one seems to be asking this important question:

Are they seriously going to teach sex ed in ENGLISH to these poor 7 year olds?

I mean if they want to teach them that girls pee like this and boy pee like that, fine. But let's teach it in their native language for pete's sake!

Mr. Garrison can show them how to put a condom on a dildo using his mouth.

We have a program at our school that is called 'Sex Ed'. We have outside teachers come in and do the program in Korean. The program our kids go through is more about 'predator-proofing' than how to make babies. Part of the program is showing the students different scenarios with puppets in which an adult character tries to get into a child character's pants. The kids are taught that this is NOT okay.

I would think that it'd be too risky (money-wise) to teach it since at least one parent would probably pull their child out of the school. Some people are touchy about how this stuff is taught.

when I was teaching at an elementary school i would poke my students in the ribs to tickle them when they made a mistake, and some of the students didn't like that. So I taught them to say "don't touch me!" in English. And if they said it I wouldn't touch them.

That's as much Sex Ed as an elementary school student ever needs, in my opinion.
