I have a domain hosted by Lunarpages.
Within Lunarpages I uploaded Wordpress through the cPanel via fantastico.
My problem is that the free blog that I used in the past has a lot more functionality in the dashboard than the dashboard I see in my Lunarpages hosted account. Also, there are only 2 templates on my hosted version.
How can I upgrade Wordpress in Lunarpages?
Note: I don't have a lot of experience using a webhost, html, wordpress etc. |

I'd encourage you to go with the hosted version and become familiar with adding themes, widgets and plugins. This will give you the flexibility to make it just how you want it to be. It's not that hard at all to do themes and plugins.
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Lessons
is a very good intro to tweaking your blog to be just how you want it
and this
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
is where you can get plugins with lots of help installing them.
As long as you know how to ftp, you should be able to do a lot without learning anything much more.
I've found WOrdpress to be far superior to Blogger even in its new format. Just much more flexible and tweakable. |

Did the free blog use wordpress?
Like the previous poster mentioned, check out the plug-ins. To install a plug-in:
1. Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ and locate the plug-in that offers the functionality you need.
2. Download it.
3. Use an FTP program to upload it to the wp-content/plugins directory on your server. (as previous poster mentioned, this is really the most technical bit).
If this is a mystery...
LunarPages uses CPanel so you should be able to log in to C-Panel and then select File Manager from the menu...do a bit of searching and you'll find it. If you aren't familiar with FTP then I recommend fooling around with this section.
4. Login as administrator on your wordpress website.
5. Go to the plug-ins section.
6. Select the activate link from the list of plug-ins.
Voila! |

I agree with this. wordpress is incredibly easy. It's designed that way.
Though for something with more power and flexibility you'll need to look elsewhere. Just a blog, wordpress is great. more than that and it suffers. |

Hammer, why don't you write LunarPages and ask? I'm sure they will help you.
You could also try tacking "wp-login.php" at the end of your blog address and see if it pulls up a login. If it does, then legin and that is the proper WP dashboard and all your familiar tools will be there. |

When you log-in to the admin section you should see...at the very bottom of the page...the version number of Wordpress. Compare the different numbers of your free wordpress installment and your other one. This will give you a clue as to whether you might need to upgrade etc. or simply install new plug-ins.
Your version number will probably something like 2.0.4 or there abouts. |

I can't see it because I log in from the wordpress.com homepage for the free blog. |
