What is the best way to read books that I have downloaded? I want to use Microsoft reader, acrobat and word. Is there a product that is hand held that will let me do this? I would also like to be able to play games and watch movies.....could an I-station allow this? |

I was going to recommend the sony reader to you until I read some of the reviews...ugh! I don't have time to link them up for you, but google it and see.
Apparently it only read proprietary "sony ebooks" and they don't even have a proper site out yet. That's the main bug.
Just get any old black and white PDA. It'll read ebooks just fine. My Mp3 player with video reads them too. Some cell phones, also. |

That sony reader looks the biz...too expensive though. Amazon are releasing a new reader called 'kindle'. The design sucks but it has a better range of books available.
I wish the prices would drop.
For anybody wanting to know the difference between a PDA and a digital ink reader - it has to do with the technology used to display the content. Digital ink relies on light reflected from the environment and is easier on the eyes (it looks like real paper) whereas the traditional electronic display emits light.
Digital ink is easier on the eye. |

Generally reading involves scanning the page from left to right with your eyes, then converting the symbols into some kind of meaning. |

I have a few friends that use the PSP, you can get mods that allow you to open pdfs. i have heard that it is okay for subway trips but not great for extended periods.
I have never done so myself, and i don't know any more details. but it sounds like an option and if it works would fit your bill right? |

I use my Palm z22. It's alright, if I'm just reading through a book like some easy fiction book, it's no problem. But if i'm reading something more difficult or something i want to go back and look at previous pages really quick, it becomes a pain in the but. But depending on how much your paying for the books and how much you read 100,000 for a palm is probably going to be worth it when you compare that with buying a normal book. |

Sorry bellum, I know what you're really getting at, but the idea of someone looking for a handheld way to read a book just cracks me up... |

If you have a geek streak, then I highly recommend getting a Nintendo DS and a flash card. Does pretty much everything a palm does but has games too.
So 150,000 for the DS then less than 100,000 for the card, which allows you to use obtained games, movies and books free, depending on your sense of piracy morals. See HERE.
I've read maybe 50 books on it so far, and maybe 50 issues of New Scientist magazine (geek). Oh and I watch Podcasts on the way to work too. End of Fanboy rant. |

An I-station player could do what you want, but Archos players are the cutting edge and SOOOOO much better. If you are not in Korea, buy an Archos player (they aren't available in Korea), but if you are, buy an I-Station player. |
