1912: Tailor Franz Reichelt fell to his death off the first deck of the Eiffel Tower while testing his invention, the coat parachute *shakes head in disbelief*. It was his first ever attempt with the parachute after he'd told the authorities in advance that he would test it with a dummy first. |

How about these.....

Autoerotic fatalities with power hydraulics.
J Forensic Sci. 1994 Sep;39(5):1143-4.
O'Halloran RL, Dietz PE.
Ventura County Medical Examiner Office, CA.
We report two cases in which men used the hydraulic shovels on tractors to suspend themselves for masochistic sexual stimulation. One man developed a romantic attachment to a tractor, even giving it a name and writing poetry in its honor. He died accidentally while intentionally asphyxiating himself through suspension by the neck, leaving clues that he enjoyed perceptual distortions during asphyxiation. The other man engaged in sexual bondage and transvestic fetishism, but did not purposely asphyxiate himself. He died when accidentally pinned to the ground under a shovel after intentionally suspending himself by the ankles. We compare these cases with other autoerotic fatalities involving perceptual distortion, cross-dressing, machinery, and postural asphyxiation by chest compression. |

This case review describes two deaths involving chainsaws. The first case describes a suicide by chainsaw and how it was differentiated from murder. The second case describes an accidental death associated with this tool which occurred within a week of the suicide in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

^Of all the ways you can kill yourself, using a chainsaw should be quite far down your list.

Man's suicide with butcher's band-saw
May 07, 2003 Edition -1
Chris Jenkins
As four horrified supermarket workers watched, a young man died a gruesome death when he put his neck to a butcher's band-saw in the store in a bizarre suicide incident.
The man, identified by police yesterday as 31-year-old Emmanuel Gumbi from the Bhejane township near Richards Bay, walked into the Shoprite/Checkers store late on Monday and proceeded to the back where the butchery was.
Witnesses told police Gumbi had entered the butchery alone.
Police said before staff could react the unemployed man switched on the butcher's band-saw and put his neck to it and seconds later fell to the floor with his neck bleeding profusely.
"It all happened in a few seconds," said Eshowe police spokesman Jay Naicker. |

Isn't Cooper Anderson, the alum of Vanderbilt University and host of a talk show on C.N.N., from the same clan?

Nothing unusual there. Any true rock and roll legend would find this a fairly respectable way to check out |
