I didn't even know you could get a bank account withour an ARC. I was under the impression you couldn't.
The rest of the regualtions sound reasonable enough. That's the one area where (it seems to me) that banks have RELAXED.
Back in 1997 I needed a TON of documents to open a bank account. My contract, a record from the tax office, passport, alien registration card, some other document from work.
The last time I opened an account (about 2 years ago) all I showed was my ARC. |

| I registered my bank account with my passport. As a consequence, they need to see my passport if I want to make any changes with it, as my ARC won't do. |

| I don't see this as a bad thing. If you have an ARC Card you should still have no problem getting a bank account. What no one has brought up in this discussion is that it could also make it more difficult on people working illegally. Those who choose to work illegally do so at their own risk and deserve to get caught if they are breaking the law. |

Sounds like another pick on the foreigners policy. Next month the police will start cracking down on scooters on sidewalks. Not because koreans complained..,but because foreigners did!! |

I like the part about people that don't speak or read Korean but try to open a bank account and get a debit card. |
