R.S.: I do not believe "serious" readers are in any danger of misunderstanding your purpose in creating this thread -- or your overall purpose on this board, for that matter. And you are lying if you say that you created this thread to discuss foreign-policy elites.

Prove me wrong, R.S. Correct your title so that it might resonate with the issue you allege you are addressing...

Oh. Alright. If it'll calm your palpitations, Mr. Gopher, I'll change the title. Satisfied?

And here I was thinking I might get some kudos for changing the title of the thread at Mr. Gopher's request. But nada. Must not have calmed those palpitations. Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

To answer the lead question, in a word:

Duh. Clearly, yes.

Was in fact recently thinking of starting a similar thread.

Poll re: the impact of post-WW2 US foreign policy.

Helpful or hurtful?

Beneficial & productive OR destructive & detrimental?

Sure, R.S.

Congratulations on reforming your debate so that it deflates its antiAmerican hyperbole and indeed comes back down to Earth to launch a reasonable discussion.

The question on American foreign-policy elites and their motives is an honest one and an interesting one. We probably differ on this, of course. But the question remains wide open.

In any case, OP references Chalmers Johnson's Sorrows of Empire. Read about two-thirds of it. Read two reviews. He makes some good points, but I mostly have problems with it. Would you like to exchange views on it?
