Hello there!

My name is Steve, been reading the forums for a few weeks, first time post. Myself and 4 of my friends are heading to Korea hopefully in late july- early august timeframe. We are all recent graduates of university, all male, and all aged 22-23, seeking to teach kindergarten - elementary. We're wondering if anyone knows of a reputable recruiter who could put us all in the same area within a short distance of eachother. We're also curious of opinions on how much compensation we should be looking for: would you say that having 5 people would be a benefit or a liability in that regard?

Any information is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Steve

From a hiring point-of-view, I wouldn't want to take a group of five at the same school. If five people begin a contract together, that means they're likely to leave together, and it would be difficult to find another five replacements all at the same time. Likewise, if one or two people become unhappy in the position, they're likely to have a negative influence on the others. I think you stand a reasonable chance of finding five different positions in the same area, not just at the same school, but I don't know anything about recruiters, so I can't help you there. I think finding positions in different schools will also provide a very beneficial variety to your lives if you already spend a lot of time together outside of work.

Pick a school district or city. Then apply to/through the office of education.

Most districts rotate between 15-50 teachers home and replace them every term.

Finding 5 public school jobs (elementary) in the same city / district - even dong should not be hard. With a little bit of effort you should even be able to get housing within a reasonable (walking) distance of each other.

And as a PS - many public schools will be hiring in the July/Aug. timeframe to fill positions for the Aug.24 - 2nd term start of school.

Thank you both for the replies, very helpful.

For ttompatz - That is very interesting about the aug. 24th hiring, good to know. My question is how would I go about applying through the office of education? Do they go through the recruiters or act like them (ie: pay your flights there and back, 1 yr contract, get your visa, etc)? Or would we need to be already in the country or pay our own flight to do that? From what I've read, public school is the way to go if available for first-timers who want to take the safe route.

Thanks again!

Your merry band sounds like a recruiter's dream. Are you guys also blond and blue-eyed? If you really want to work at the same place and get paid well for goofing off with kids all day I'd suggest an English village or 'camp', though that also might involve middle schoolers. Just email the above to a bunch of recruiters and watch your inbox fill up (perhaps you should get a new email address just for that purpose).

My suggestion is to live together. Maybe have two guys work at for one employer and 3 other guys work at another place in the same area. Then you can get two relatively nice apartments rather than 5 crappy ones and you can still hang out in your free time. Hell, you can even swap roommates if you are getting on each others nerves.

I am positive every recruiter that reads this forum will be PMing you.
I will resist the temptation.
5 teachers = $$$$
Don't look for a good recruiter...look for 5 good jobs.
